I'll be keeping my Kodiaq for as long as it'll pass MOT's without excessive repair costs, so hopefully 10-15 years.

 

Therefore manual for me. A faulty DSG box can write a car off as an uneconomic repair from anywhere above 5 years old!

Hardly.

If you had the car for 5 years or more £4,000 for a new box is hardly the end of the world if the car is a keeper that cost you over 25 grand.

 

It is writing off VW Group cars that were around £15,000 new RRP and have the DQ200 failing out of warranty, 

car now worth £4,000 with £3,000 finance and some chancers quoting £4,000-£5,000 for a DSG, 

or even £8,000 for an engine, engines VW knew had Fundamental Design, Manufacturing, Material, Software faults, 

as they did with some DQ200 DSG, 2009-2012, then 2012/13 to 2015.

 

Time will tell how many 2018 Euro 6 petrol or diesels are on UK roads in 2028, or ones older than 2018 other than 'Classics'..

5 years @ 25,000 miles per year soon takes a £25K car to sub £10K.

 

A £4K gearbox plus mechatronics would have me thinking twice about repairing or selling.

When you do not want or need 2 pedal cars then maybe you are right,  when you do need 2 pedal cars and you buy a keeper then you are probably right, do not buy a VW designed one with no service schedules or maintenance required,  and that Skoda build over 2,000 of a day and when out of warranty or even in warranty are not that interested in if faulty.   Then much the same with engines,  if they discontinue them it is as though nothing to do with them a few years on. Get to #### and cry on someone else's shoulder.

Go for the multi-mode DSG, but paddles are a MUST (see me recommending something I have) and you’ll never look back.

 

DSG does NOT work like an old style Slush Box. Go try one.

we test drove a 1.4 tsi dsg kodiaq at the weekend and were quite impressed. The box gets better as it starts to learn how you drive. We currently have a crv with cvt and a Discovery 3 auto, the way it changes up are quite 'seemless' .

Well I decided that I could not really justify the cost of the DSG over the manual and since most of my driving is long motorway runs where I normally stick it in 6th and put on the ACC I've just ordered a manual.  Good deal arranged through Marshalls at Croydon - tell Wayne I sent you!

Do you get the best deals going direct or via carwow (as an example?).

We are talking to a dealer who can't believe another is undercutting them by so much as there is nothing left in the car... I believe him as he said he would buy the car from them as he couldn't match their price..

Oldest trick in the book. For every dealer that trundles out this tosh there will be another one needing to hit a number and willing to take your money.

The dealer the won’t do a deal, is usually the one that’s knocked down for a block of flats in a couple of years. There’s at least two of them that went under near me.

Can I ask why you think a manual 4x4 will be better than a DSG 2WD for that sort of usage? You're going to pay more up-front for the 4x4, and you're going to pay more to lug the drivetrain up and down the motorway in reduced mpg... and for 99% of the time the system will just be powering the front wheels anyway.

A 4x4 is handy for where I live at the top of a hill which means that when it's snowy I can't get home and out to work. Also I think that a manual more suits my driving style at the moment

Let's just say they matched and slightly bettered the best I could get from car wow and that was good enough for me.

So having looked at the price list that is now on the Skoda site it looks like the textile mats are no longer standard. If an order was accepted with them as part of the spec should I expect my dealer to supply them as part of the deal - if so I'll get him to supply me rubber ones instead. 

 

No mention of digital dash though....
