My new Silver VRS tips.

Featured Replies

Collected my VRS on Tuesday 7th March and I am over the moon. The whole build quality is brilliant and I am only appreciating how good the car is now I've finally got it.

Can anybody give me any tips on how to keep her in good shape inside and out and what products to use for the seats/paintwork so they stay in top condition?

Also I know i've had this debate before but I still am undecided about the run-in. The dealer has told me that all engines are bench tested and to just drive it normally without going OTT (in my case fast,....... I mean briskly). The handbook says give it 1500km, discuss.........

Try Supagard. Wax the car and it apparantly doesnt need re waxing for 3 years. This is backed up by a three year warranty. Applied it to mine and it looks the dogs when clean. It protects from usual crap salt, acid rain, bird ****. For the interior supagard also do an interior product. It forms a protective barrier, a must with half white seats and a dog who jumps all over it.

For running in the deaer also said to me you can drive it like you have robbed it but coming from an engineering background i know this to be ballocks. At first id say dont take it over 2000 revs until the engine has wormed up. From then gently increase RPM but dont take it over 3000 revs. Also dont put access amounts of load on the engine by thrashing it to 3000. After about 800 ish miles it should be run in. 800 miles should give the bearings and moving parts time to bed in and loosen up. Also when you have been on long runs allow the engine to idle for 2 minutes before switching off, this will allow the turbo enough time to slow down and cool down.

Hope the above helps, i did this on my VRS and it cleans up like its just left the factory and thats after having the dog in it. At 8000 miles the oil has never needed topping up and is still cleanish

Thought that must have been yours!! Saw it when I was passing there the other morning, Steven was out doing the PDI on it, brought back memories of mine, only a month ago but seems like ages now:eek: Congratulations, welcome to the club!

P.s. whats your reg start with, and il keep an eye out for you:thumbup:

It starts with KJZ mate. Petersons did a great job, I was able to blag a set of rear mudflaps for free, undecided if I will do a DIY put them on. I also asked for a full tank of diesel but when I got in the car it was only under 1/2 full. I was about to say sumthin but the dealer pulled out a crisp

Enjoy Mate, Il keep an eye out for you, my reg ends 6666. :D

Thanks for reply, i've had a look at this on E-Bay and the wax seems to come in a 1 use spong, does that sound right? I have bought a kit for

Hi Ma$ter,

Picked my Corrida red VRS on Tuesday 7th too. Chuffed to bits.

I am following the recommended run in procedure. Keeping the rpms to under 3000 for 1500Km's, and trying to make sure that I don't labour the engine at low rpm's. Also I am going easy on the brakes.

I followed the manufacturers run in procedure on my last car - a renault clio pertol, and it never used a drop of oil outside of the service oil change in 46,000 miles. The Clio had an 18,000 mile service interval!

I have read numerous postings about problems with seat material. I sprayed the interior cloth surfaces with CarPlan Nanomeric - I think it's the same as scotchguard. About £10 from you local Halfords.

Yeh the supagard is the same as on ebay. Make sure you have a garage to do it in. Dont think the stuff likes direct sun light.

Good luck with the new car

The only tip I have for cleaning the outside - always check your sponge for stones - a 2 month old Furby vRS with a nice deep scratch down the bonet really wasn't a nice feeling - I usually check and rinse out, but I was in a hurry - won't be doing that again!
