Electrical issues

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

having a few issues with my mk1 Octavia and wondering if anyone else has had the same problems before I go trying to replace parts and that. So.. my coolant temperature light comes on when I first start the car then goes off after 5 minutes, my passenger window works sometimes and doesn’t other times, every time I try to use my window washers it blows the fuse for the wipers and sometimes the window wipers just stop and stick for a bit then start working again eventually and when they are working every time they go back down there’s a click from the relays, sometimes when I’m driving along there’s a click from the relays and the car cuts out and the battery symbol comes on the dash as if it’s stalled, the passenger heater for the seat doesn’t fully heat up, sometimes the engine temperature gauage doesn’t move from 0 but engine runs fine. Lol think that’s it. Might be that these are all different faults but the fact it all seems electrical made me think maybe there’s a nick in the loom or a bad earth? Anyway any info or help would be much appreciated! Cheers!

Window issue likely the loom going from drivers door to main body. Either a worn wire shorting or... corrosion in the plugs.

Buy and fit a genuine CTS, aftermarket ones tend to be not liked in mk1s.

I near guarantee if you pull the fuse and disconnect the loom for the rear washer unit your wiper problems will disappear..

Cheers for the reply man I’ll have a look into that part for the window!

I don’t have a rear window wiper so will I have a look connection going to the back?

I doubt it, the problem usually starts in the rear washer/wiper motor assembly. It can cause all sorts of madness. If its gone already, thats not the source of this problem.

@talbotron3000 - It's unusual to have the coolant light go off in June! Anyway, presuming the coolant is to level, with the engine cold open the reservoir (white plastic, blue cap, contains pink or orange liquid, labeled "G12(+)") and rub a flat screwdriver blade down the 2 metal prongs revealed. This usually works, and a new reservoir is only about £20 if it doesn't.

Yeah it’s not too good lol yeah levels are fine, even changed the coolant sensor and never made a difference. Cheers I’ll give that a bash in the morning to see if it works. If not I’ll try and pick up a new reservoir hopefully that will solve one of the issues I’m having! Lol!
