VRS DSG Petrol Estate, getting the price right?

Featured Replies

Having had a really excellent experience with this brilliant car over the last three years the time to change has come.  However I am struggling with setting a price as they seem pretty thin on the ground.  It is a 2013 race blue VRS petrol, dsg, estate with no sat nav.  59k on the clock with a full Skoda main dealer history.  I have to say it is in great condition.

What advice can you give me?  Perhaps you have sold a similar car recently?

Cheers.

Give Evans Halshaw a check and add 10-15% for a private sale.

Or check autotrader for similar cars.

I'd say somewhere in the region of 12k based on what I've seen of others for sale with similar age/mileage.

Take thumbscrews to dealership and apply to salesperson. Say "I'm looking to pay £X to change" and tighten screws if you don't get a deal you can both live with! ;-)

Get three quotes - to determine the car's value. it'll take you no more than 5mins

WeBuyAnyCar.com

WeWantAnycar.com

and also Arnold Clark - WeWillBuyYourCar

Selling car to one of the above: My advice is to accurately describe your car. In my experience Arnie has always given the best offer and if he has a Skoda dealer near you, chances are they may look over a few imperfections as the car will be easier to sell on their forecourt. Even if you describe the car accurately, the buyers will find something to knock the price dow even further.

Selling privately? All depends on how much your car is worth. It's often difficult to sell cars that are worth more than £8000 privately. Remember - the prices you see similar cars advertised for are not necessarily the prices they sell for. Dealers don't make that much out of a car, most of their profit is made by selling additional items - additional warranties, finance etc. You also have the worry about selling to a fraudster.

Part Ex: Most people used to part ex their cars but you may well get a better price selling your car to one of the above - just depends on the market. Put it this way, the last three cars I sold, I received more money from selling to WeWant and Arnie than I'd have received in part Ex. (including Arnie !!!!  Cheaper to give him my car and walk away than give him my car and buy another car - how crazy is that?)

Selling privately - go to Autotrader, click on sell, put in your number plate and then mileage. This will then give you a suggested price based on good condition.

This, in my experience, is usually quite an accurate guide as to what the car might sell for.

For a petrol vRS I’d add £250-400 dependent on condition as they are in demand.

Good luck!
