Kerbed alloy wheel.

Well it'll be sorted when it's on the car :D

I realise it'll need balancing too.

Yes,I'll paint the damaged alloy and keep it as a spare (will it raise the carpet and rubber mat I wonder?).

It's been an expensive mistake and I'll pay more attention to kerbs in future!

Well it won't be going on the car as it has damage on it that's not in the eBay description.

In the process of trying to return it now  . Am I being pedantic?

Pedantic, No, send it back, not as advertised or ask for massive discount

Well I'm still waiting for their reply. If they don't respond by Monday I'll open an eBay case.

Why would they send a damaged wheel that doesn't match  the photo's? Maybe just chancing it hoping I don't care?

That is shocking, as far as I remember that damage was not shown in the pictures when it was listed in ebay, any smart seller would highlight any damage to avoid any issues after sending out a wheel, a complete donkey I'd say!

Edit:- when I bought used VW alloys from Germany via ebay, each wheel had pictures with any "not completely perfect" areas highlighted, most of these areas are almost invisible to the eye in the flesh, but they took the option of highlighting them to avoid any future issues from buyers.

Here's the photo of the wheel as it appeared on eBay.

Is the wheel they sent you the same one in the picture. Do the Balance weights look to be in the same place. Valve at 8 o clock, balance weights at 10 o clock ?

I'm think that **** had more than one wheel for sale and sent the best one(s) out first, that wheel in that picture looks "as good as new" condition which will be the only reason why you bought it!!!

Good luck with getting ebay, who always sides with the buyer to do anything.

That's a good point when using photo evidence.

When the valve hole is at 8 o clock the weights are at 3 o clock.

I'm beginning to believe they are deliberately ignoring my complaint now.

True,I would never have bought the one I've now got.

The seller has said sorry I have an issue with the wheel and has asked for photographic evidence which I've now provided.

By the way, these two dings on that wheel that you were sold don't look like they are "fresh" - ie happened a few days ago or in transit, there is traces of oxidation going on in your picture at these damaged areas - just in case the seller tries that trick.

Thanks for the tip. Isn't it horrible when people are dishonest like this.
