Characteristic or not?

Featured Replies

Gave my car a decent journey out today mostly motorway so ran the car which is a sportline 220 dsg in E mode just for curiosity.

I don't typically run in E mode usually D mode or bypass the full auto and use the paddle shift.

Anyway i noticed that when the car was shifting up gears and whilst in 3rd the car had a judder before it shifted up into 4th. This condition was not always 100% repeatable more so 75%.

Personally i dont think this is a characteristic? Any other owners agree disagree? Owners of the 220tsi DSG only though please as like for like comparisons are more helpful.

My DSG has never really been the smoothest since purchase (always feel the changes up in the low gears). My only comparisons to this DSG are my prior octy diesel DSG which was much smoother and courtesy DSG cars which were the 7 speed DSG. These were also very smooth.

220 tsi DSG owners opinions welcome.

Judder as if you’re labouring the engine similar to if you don’t shift down in time in a manual car?

No.

Occur on upshift.

Cars in gear 3, speed increasing, pre shifting to 4 a judder is felt.

Then the gearbox shifts up to 4.

Sounds odd. Only in eco mode or all modes?

either way I would be up the dealer for a warranty check and maybe drive another to see if it does the same.

Doesn't sound right.  I'd be taking it back to the dealer

I agree in that it just doesnt feel 'right'. The car has been to the dealer before regarding my DSG as i am not truly 100% happy with it but as no fault codes were logged and that both clutches were changing gears the dealer 'found no fault'

Now the DSG is having the judder between gears concerns even further.

I have not noticed this in D mode but in this the DSG jerks and hesitates between shifting so again am not convinced all is well.

Im told these DSG6 boxes are the most robust and trouble free?

How many miles you done?

Has the gearbox oil be changed if require.

I tried using Eco mode a couple of days ago. I noticed that when accelerating out of ‘coasting’, there was a bit of a jerk as it resumed drive.

I agree the eco mode character has the small jerk when the clutch engages after coasting when back on throttle but this is through the gears.

Its never been a smooth box, recently drove a superb with DSG 7 which never jerked or juddered once. Really smooth. Hence im suspicious regarding mine.

I have a 220 with a DSG6 box - I drove in Eco mode today, ranging from start-stop traffic up-to 90km/h.

There was no jerkiness when upshifting or re-engaging back from Coasting.

I don't normally use ECO mode, but now I know about the "lazy" mode for when I'm feeling that :)

E will switch to coasting every time you let off the pedal. When it engages it again it'll rarely match the revs perfectly thus the jerk. If you always have the foot on the pedal then E won't be so jerky but then it's pointless to use E.

Also driving style and adherence are factors - if you gonna brutalize the pedals then you won't be able to perceive upshifts and coasting as jerky will you. Same when driving in the snow - it's gonna be very smooth, loss of traction will smooth the jumpy transmission.

Long story short, not a characteristic, the engineers of the 2nd biggest manufacturers in the world never designed in jerkyness.

Try another identical car, and then get a Skoda Master Technician to diagnose your fault if there is one, they do 'Not all do that'.

Well mine has no issues matching,  thus no jerks.

As I mentioned no issues re-engaging after coasting.  As u said - the car will only coast if the foot is off the pedal.

As @Offski said - jerkiness is not a characteristic.

Sadly it's a common occurrence, and worse still, the service techs can't b bothered, and declare it as "normal".

I'm gonna go touch wood now......

Better than touching cloth when you have forgotten that 'Coasting' has no engine braking or engaging gear again so lifting off the throttle is not enough when you spot that 'Safety Mobile Camera van'.
