Octy 17's vs Furby 16's - Unsprung weight confirmed

Featured Replies

For those geeks who are interested!

I weighed my new Octy vRS17's inc. tyres and my old Fabia vRS 16's to see what difference the weight is.

Octy 17's inc. 205/40/17 P Zero Nero = 18 kg

Furby 16's inc. 205/45/16 Turenza = 16.7 kg

These are according to my bathroom scales.

My car must be slower now and also takes longer to slow down. Can't say I've notced though since fitting them. Can feel the bumps more now though.

am picking my 04 vrs up tomoz and that has the 17's on from octy vrs and i think they look the dogs, aint to worried about it being slower as were all responsible drivers arent we:rofl:

Well there is a slight increase in the rolling radius of the wheel which means that the car will cover more distance per revolution which means that it will reduce acceleration slightly and increase your top end slightly, althought it will be minimal

It also means your speedo will be even further out ;)

You more than make up for it in looks tho

There is a +5mm difference in diameter which is +0.85% and considering that my GPS tells me that my speedo is -6% accurate, it can only make it more accurate.

Harry, agreed, they look the Dog's:thumbup:

i have 205/40/17s fitted and according to my Talex the speedo is over-reading by 2mph which is as it should (i think?)

At approx 1kg per corner, 4kgs all round, which is approx double when moving, thats an 8kgs rolling weight difference!

Not sure you'd notice it unless you had a well set-up Fab; suspension, ARBs, Strutbraces, etc which would show more subtle differences that the rolly-polly std set-up!

Calculations put that at 0.6 mph over what it should be at 70 mph, which consider most acrs are under reading at 70 mph, isn't an issue.

:)
