Fabia HTP 1.2 - Head Gasket on its way?

Featured Replies

I recently bought a fabia 1.2 htp from a dealer, i did all the checks and what not before I purchased it. Recently i’ve been having a problem with what I dont know but during mid drive, for example before im coming up to a roundabout my engine is stalling and all the warning lights come on as if i’ve put the ignition on, I have to quickly turn the key back on as the brakes don’t push down and the handbrake barely works (anti whiplash im guessing).

when the temperature is too high at 130 the coolant tank seems to be gassing up and throffing out, and i’ve noticed the coolant disappears and then later on slowly fills back up again. the ecu has been reset so the engine coolant sensor has stopped coming on, there is no white milky substance around the oil filling cap.

Im unsure as to wether it will be a blocked pipe somewhere or worse the head gaskets gone, Ive took it to a mechanic but they cant fit me in for atleast a week. Im guessing nobody wants to change a head gasket.

Im baffled as to what the problem may be.

@Cozza89 - Are the radiator fans both coming on? If they are, and the engine temperature is still hitting 130C, then get a coolant gas analysis done. This will probably confirm your fear of HGF.

If they aren't, then test the fan thermoswitches by shorting across them and if the fans now run replace the thermoswitches first.

None of the Radiator fans are coming on @ 90 degrees even with the A/C on.

where abouts are the thermostat switches Ken?

@Cozza89 - Amazingly enough the fan thermoswitches are on the radiator! Having said which if you aren't at least getting the A/C fan on slow when the A/C is on then you may have no live to the fans and/or failed motors.

Check the strip fuses and blade fuses (under a little cover) in the battery fuseholder.

How recently did you buy the car from the dealer? You may be able to refer it back to them by law.
