Help with fault codes please

Featured Replies

Been a bit concerned that stop-start stopped working, has started working again but not nearly as often or as early in a journey as it used to. This prompted me to look at battery voltage, which seemed a bit low. Have now taken a VCDS scan. Attached word document shows only the addresses returning faults. Have done this prior to going to dealer as I strongly suspect they will be unable to find anything amiss.

I'm guessing that the fault at address 52 was a one off several months ago so hopefully not too much of a concern.

Would welcome thoughts on the code at 19 or 52.

Thank you

First option I'd charge the battery. If there's any doubt about battery voltage and certain functions don't work, stick it on charge and then see what happens. Bear in mind I presume you'll have an AGM battery and you'll need a charger suitable for rechanging these. Something like this...

Thanks, yes from fault code scan:                  Supply voltage: Terminal 30 :    12.1 V "

Had thought with the type of runs and minimal power consumption recently it would have been well charged up but beginning to appreciate that modern battery management systems are a whole new ball game so perhaps not.

Despite having Stop-start the battery fitted (from new) is just a 59AH EFB   I understand that I will still need to get a modern smart charger for this type of battery. Still a bit confused by conflicting advice regarding whether to disconnect the battery or not but plan to go with the Octavia 3 manual (05.2016) leave battery connected and connect charger negative to ground point.

Thanks again

Ah, the EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) battery is a cheaper alternative to the AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery. You won't need a smart charger for one of those I suspect but I'd still recommend the Ctek one anyway as it's a proper good machine for all cases really. The EFB battery is used in lower end cars with less electronic technology than higher end cars which use AGM. See here.

Overall, I'd charge / recondition the existing batter and see if you can get a bit more life out of it, or drop by the dealers and complain you're having to charge the battery every couple of weeks with your Ctek charger and all works for a while then it starts misbehaving until you charge it again. Might just get it under warranty.

Thanks

One more  question if anyone out there can help.

I had been wondering if the battery monitoring module could be to blame but no sign of this on the fault scan. Would you expect any battery monitoring module issues to show up on a VCDS scan?

Thanks
