Very noisey new clutch

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Any advise or help with this rather strange issue after having a new clutch kit fitted to my car.

The vehicle is

Octavia 1.6 tdi 5 speed manual with dual mass clutch.

Year is 2010 with currently 85k miles

Around 9 months ago I had a replacement clutch kit fitted due to original juddering at take up/biting  point. Once engaged the old clutch was fine, no vibrations, noise, judder, just issues with biting point judder.

Got fed up with it so had a full replacement kit fitted.

Garage was an local independent but had done many before as they look after several taxis plus other Skoda customers.

New clutch was direct copy of what came out Sachs.

Worked love.y for 2 days,no issues no judder,perfect.

Then started to make loud screeching noises, metal to metal noises. Took back but garage could not get the noise to start.

It has been perfect ever since,no issues,no judder,no noise,perfect.

Until the recent hot weather.

As outside ambient temp increases to the 23,24 plus level, the noise returns.

The noise is there both when travelling,I can here it up to 40 mph, when stationary, when both in and out of gear.

At times it will just start, other times it will start as a little whisper of noise but then get louder and louder.

As the outside ambient temp drops the noise simply goes away.the car can be driven any distance hard or soft,as long as the outside temp is below 23/24 Then there are no issues.

When the noise is there the gearbox and clutch operate, feel perfect apart from the noise.

Thinking back to when the clutch was fitted and the original staring of the noise,it was a particularly hot day.

The noise is not just a little tiny rattle or scrape,it draws looks from all around when stationary in traffic.

The garage are reluctant to offer much  help, despite being told that the new clutch has a 2 yr warranty on it.

What can cause such an issue simply down to the weather ?????

The noise is terrible and I just do not know what damage is being caused.

Will get a recording next time out and upload if needed.

Sorry for the ramble, any help or advice would be appreciated

Regards

Stephen

Could be something rubbing on flywheel or housing somewhere. No specific experience of what it could be but as temp increases metal expands and a very tight tolerance could be then closed and cause the grinding noise.

The garage should be able to investigate but I suppose if proven to not be a defective clutch, or installation work,  it would probably be your cost.

I'd stop driving it just in case to avoid damaging something else - such as the gearbox casing. Think it needs to go back to the garage ASAP. I've just had a gearbox and clutch issue sorted on our Panda an it's come with a 2 year warranty (independant garage)
