VRS (EA888) with lots of engine problems

Featured Replies

So a lot of these problems started after I fitted a new intake manifold, with the hope of curing my EML light and P2015 error code :dull: I de-coked the valves, and only had to replace 1 injector seal (with the correct VW tool and seal kit)

Now I'm getting constant issues with the car. The main one seems to be as per the video below:

Is it the runner flap motor/control arm? It's constantly popping out of position, which seems to cause an intake leak. I can normally tell as the idle turns really rough, and often throws up a flashing EML for an active misfire. If I pop the bonnet and push the arm back in, it turns back to normal.

Am I going to have to buy another intake to cure this issue?

For the first time today, I heard a rattling noise on cold start, which has now got me back into being paranoid about the timing chain issue. I checked block 93 on VCDS with the engine running, and the correction value was 3.8deg. Also made no noise when turning the engine off.

Does that sound like timing chain rattle?

That is the runner flap arm. Why is it faulty on a new intake manifold? Is it genuine part?

My understanding is approaching 4 degrees phase correction indicates chain and tensioner replacement...

It does sound like some rattle knocking inside timing cover. Im not totally sure if it is due to the tensioner but the other indicator is pointing to an approaching problem.

Agreed that intake is faulty.

Speaking from experience if you haven't changed the tensioner get it done asap. If I recall correctly Skoda said they charge around to fit it £250 which is considerably cheaper than the £1500 it cost to fix my engine and I was lucky that mine was salvageable.

It was labelled as a genuine part, though came from US eBay. It was a direct match for the one I removed, though is there an updated part with a modified flap arm? Sure I've seen something on ECS Tuning.

It was such a pain in the ass to fit. Not looking forward to having to do it all again!

You're still using a faulty part though. Was the intake new or used?
