Stuck Ash Tray

Featured Replies

Please be gentle with me as this is my first proper post...

I have just taken possession of my Roomster (which I am loving to bits!). There is a few Jobs to do on the car and one of them which has me asking for advice is about the cylindrical ashtray in the back, in front of the rear seats. I am just wondering is this removable as it seems to be jammed tight in the cup holder?  It looks a different colour to the rest of the trim, so I presume it is detectable. Is there a release catch inside? Am I missing something obvious?

The reason i want to remove it is the lid is broken and there is a couple of sharp edges I don't want the kids to get their hands on.

Any advice would be gladly accepted.

Hi Drumbo(you have to be carful how you spell that, HaHa)

If its like the front ones in mine, they can feel very tight if not removed for a while. Just tap it side to side it should then come out.

The other thing, if its broken anyway a pair of pliers will do it.

Hi Drumbo and welcome to Briskoda.

As above - if your rear ashtray is like the front ashtray in my old Roomster, it has a slight taper top-to-bottom and drops into a tapered hole.  The arrangement works well until the ashtray is forced into the hole - for example by a child standing on it.  I managed to free mine by putting on a pair of rubber gloves (to provide some grip) and twisting it.

Hi Guys, thanks for the advice. It was properly wedged in - i think a small child must of trod on it a good few times.

I sprayed some WD-40 around the ashtray at the point it met the hole and left it a few days to seep down. When it came to moving the ashtray itself I thought I would be still in for a fight, but with a old rag for grip it came away in one piece very easy. Quick wipe down to get rid of the excess WD-40 before settling down and watch the England v Sweden game - what a result!
