Car Tax Question

Featured Replies

My tax runs out at the end of the month on my 3 year old Fabia, since the car was registered at the end of September would I have to get a MOT sorted out for the end of the month.

MOT and tax operate to different independent deadlines.

If your car is 3 years old this coming September, you'll need to get the MOT done before it's third "birthday" and won't need it to tax your car this time round.

If it was 3 years old last September, you should have an existing MOT certificate with which to tax your car, and then you just need to get you MOT done in the month before the old one expires.

Rob.

If it was registered in September, it must be 2 and a half or 3 and a half years old. Its March now.

You need an MOT at 3 years old, if your car is 3 1/2 get when asap.

Check the date of reg on your v5.

I guess if it's 3 years old then yes. if t's not 3 year old then no.

but not sure 100%

it's always best to have the MOT done before your warranty runs out!

The car is 2 half years old it is 3 years old ( 53 reg) in September, the service is due in May so will do the MOT at the same time.

Sorry about not much details first time around but was in the middle of getting a meal prepared.

Guys just to make you aware. Your car is due an MOT when it is 3years old but it depends on how you bought it. I may be from N.Ireland but we are still in the UK and I am 100% sure of this. The age of your car is determined by the date it was first registered, not when it was manufactured (except where italics occurs). If a car is registered with no prior use on the road, the MOT will be required three years after the date of registration. For example, a car registered "from new" on 25th April 2000 will require its MOT no later than 25th April 2003. If a car is used prior to registration, as would be the case with an import, the MOT will be required three years from the end of the year of manufacture. For example a car manufactured at any time in 2000 will require an MOT no later than 31st December 2003. There is no grace period given after these dates.

I hope that clarifies the situation for you?
