Shell V power is expensive and only beneficial in the rally car for road rallies.

Not really. A turbo-charged engine absolutely will take advantage of a higher octane. Since turbos are the norm these days, that's true of most engines.

As for the cleaning, I think e.g. V-Power has a lubricating effect, too, which works by lining small scratches on combustion surfaces that typically reduce combustion efficiency.

Please see above about fuel density, too.

It isn't as clear-cut as you make out.

?

Do engines that might have bore wash issues like some VW Euro 5 Emissions ones, really need the Detergents & the use of Long Life Oil & Service Intervals.

1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136 kw Twinchargers certainly are better without long interval services or Long Life oil, but better for Super Unleaded, actually much better for it even driving not as though in a rally.

Other TSI's as well IME.

There is a reason for this on the filler flap and recommended octane, even if no 98 Ron sold in the UK.

pity that Skoda do not put on a website.

Australia fuel standards are close to the worst of the developed world and actually preclude euro 6.2 (GPFs) due their high (150 ppm) sulphur content.

Our C4P costs 7c/km, which is 6.3 p/mile (I think) using a 10% ethanol blend which saves me ~ 20-30c/litre.

That doesn’t persuade anyone else apparently because it’s widely regarded as “crap” petrol and “wouldn’t touch it mate” comments.

Facts don’t matter in this subject, predjudice rules.

I though this thread was going to be about petrol vs diesel vs hybrid vs EV vs hydrogen...

Oh well.

My tuppence (0.833333p) worth

TESCO Diesel around here is awful year-round in both FIAT JTDs and SEAT PDs. BP diesel is smooth & clean burning in comparison.

In a TSi, Shell Nitro+ gives me 6% more mpg than Shell 95 but costs increase more than 6%.

ESSO and BP premium fuels don't seem to give as much benefit as Shell.

When will we be able to get a hydrogen powered car in the UK?

^^^ Does Tesco Momentum 99 not give the same 6% improvement for around 6% less than the V-Power Nitro + or for the same price to buy as Shell FuelSaver 95 ron?

Arnold Clark Toyota Aberdeen will sell or lease you one, and there are filling stations for you to fill up at, but not that much use further afield maybe..

Trained Technicians there as well.

I could tell a difference between 95 and 98 RON in my TFSI Octavia, but that was because it was made to run on 98RON. But I got a bigger increase in MPG by fitting GY Efficient Grip tyres.

I've had 3 diesel cars and 1 petrol since then and I have been unable to tell the difference in performance in any fuel in any car since.

They are all done to a BS standard, if they go beyond that that might be the value added. Shell, Esso etc probably take a bit more care over the QA of their fuels.

IMHO... how you drive the car is likely to make more of a difference to it's life expectancy than what you feed it with. What is the point in worrying about premium fuel if you don't service the car properly, put on crap rubber and drive like a learner for 500m journeys.

That will be GREENERGY taking more care for ESSO than for Tesco then?, highly unlikely.

Are Shell really taking more care than GREENERGY as the fuel is collected from the same depots, then the 'packages added'.?

Mis-fueling of filling station tanks and accidents have taken place be it Tesco, Morrisons, Shell or any retailer that anyone cares to google about.

At least when it happens it happens to lots of people, reaches the news or the AA / RAC locally and people get compensated without much hassle.
