2016 VRS Horn

Featured Replies

Hi

does anyone know where the horn/horns are located. Mine seem to be very very quiet whilst in the car. Especially compared to my 2013 GTD.

has anyone changed them for somethig louder? If so was it easy?

you have to take the bumper off to get at them. they are directly behind the front grill

So the whole bumper has to come off. Can’t just take the grill off? Or am I missing something?

The grille is part of the bumper.  Just to make life difficult...

I too have found the horn sounds very weak and considering the whole hassel of removing the front bumper would it be possible to just bypass it and fit a better one or pair elsewhere ?

Hopefully not one that plays La Cucaracha or the traditional Dixie car horn lol.

definately not , after a while I will investigate possibilities unless someone can advise. Meanwhile will have to put up with it, although its seldom used. Think it cant be heard behind a wet newspaper.

ive bought two 120db+ twin tones and will do a quick how to as soon as the weather gets better. either way you really need to get the bumper off, its not hard just time consuming.

my 50 year old beetle has stronger horns. The vRS horns sound like a toy car.

If you can find the relay for the horn via the wiring diagrams you can disconnect the originals and fit something else without taking the bumper off. It depends on the wiring but I used to like fitting stebel nautilus horns using a seperate relay and a fused live from the battery with a beefy enough cable. Depends how far you want to go.

Oh! thanks for that ExSEAT  that is a plan. Must look for something with a good tone.

My Octavia horns also sound feeble.

It was a bit of a let down when trying to alert a wandering HGV, being accustomed as I was to the urgent, authoritative horns in my Mk4 Mondeo.

Removing the bumper to get to the horns seems a bit excessive.....

I do have a set of air horns in the garage somewhere, Hmmm

there was a visual aspect to me changing horns and taking the bumper of was necessary as they are accented red.

Yes , feeble is the description. I have been considering the fitting of another independent one. An old type klaxon horn, think it is called a bull horn. Not sure but it would certainly grab attention making a sound like 'Ahhgoo gah ' ,can you imagine.  Next thing somebody will say its illegal.

And has the Border Terrier got a good bark? Mine had, especially if a cat appeared.

Standing outside the car and pressing the horn, it does sound a bit louder than when driving along, and the two-tones do make it quite piercing.

I do intend to fit the airhorns, though.

He's a softee, very much a peoples dog you might get licked to death but that about it :D

He has seen off a pair of foxes after they attacked our Patterdale. when a border latches on in anger its very hard to get them to release.
