2005 1.9PD DSG - Worth a buy?

Viewed the car today. The bodywork was in mint condition, not a mark on it at all. Only 1 alloy had a little scuff on it. It drove nicely, there was slight feedback/delay when starting reverse or forward creep on a hill because there is no hill hold, so it took a second to almost catch itself and then it moved on. Nice comfy seats.

The air con didn't seem to blow very cold though, how does the Aircon in it work? It had an auto and an econ button. Should I just go to a mobile A/C service to get it sorted?

Decided to go for it because of the good history and the immaculate body + smooth drive. It handle a lot better than my Yeti does.

Now you have has a bit of time to let the head overrule the heart I'd draw up a list of faults or issues you have with the car and ask the seller to sort them before you commit to buying the more concerns you may have the better the warranty needs to be

or to put this another way if you don't ask ...........

I had the 55 plate 2.0 Elegance, it had done 55k when we sold it. First great car pulled caravan and got up to 35mpg  solo long runs 60+ over all 45mpg ave for the 55k. Problems .turbo ,dsg. It was serviced regular by Skoda with all correct intervals. One mechanic did say we should have give it some welly at times to clear a part. On the dsg part it went lumpy and went in for a week or more where they and Skoda uk could not fathom what is wrong. Sold it for present cr engine. Happened to go on that website for mot and found some one had bought it and done umpteen thousand miles more. Wished I had known more what they done as would have kept it

have it on auto and turn it "LO" and it should be ice cold, could simply just need a re-gas but best to go a/c specialist rather that one of the fast fit outfits

The only real 'fault' with the car was that the air con seemed to not blow cold. There aren't really any other actual faults with it

Fixing AC can be a simple regass, but usually this doesn't happen without any reason and is usually caused by a leak.

Leaking condenser can cause compressor failure also. Worst case you're bill will be 700-800GBP if you have a new compressor and condenser fitted, and have it regassed.

I would try making a deal, buying it for a little more, but having the AC working.

Also, I don't see any information about the engine. Like mentioned before, I would not advice to buy a BLS or BXE engine, unless you're going to replace the conrod bearings (or already have been). Otherwise its just a running time bomb. You might be lucky having no issues, but if you're unlucky like many others, the engine will blow eventually.

Honestly I didn't check the engine code, all I know is that is runs fine! I have sent them an email saying that I'd like them to sort the Aircon when they service it. It'd need to be fixed under warranty if not anyway surely?

I'm only going to keep the car for a very maximum of 2 years. I'll probably get the itch to change after a year and I only do 7-9k miles a year, so it isn't going to have a hard life whilst I own it.

The engine # starts with BKC. Then 6 numbers after this. Is this OK?

Bkc are not the problem engines.

Oh good, that is reassuring. Dealer is taking it for a DSG oil change today, should be picking it up tomorrow or Friday. I should be getting the aircon sorted beforehand too.
