Octavia comparison

Featured Replies

Had a brand spanking 1.0 Combi while 1.0 Octavia was in for its service.

Combi way quieter tyre noise wise

Ride pretty similar

Typically estate car boominess

Drivetrain/engine noise louder not offensive at all.

Slightly more engaging drive

Weird spec 110 bhp, no Aircon ....at all

Guessing it must be the Active Trim level, if so it seems a wee bit down on the equivalent S trim which offers 15 inch wheels to 14 inch wheels.

I also have no air con in my S trim.

That’s the usual de-speccing of Irish market cars.

To some degree an effort to reduce effects of our double taxation VRT on new cars, stripping down the base taxable value of the imported car.

Probably also a VAG cost- stripping, profit maximising function too !  Car makers/importers  always got away with cutting corners here!

You had (I’m guessing) the mid-spec “Ambition” trim - in Uk , the mid-spec SE gets Front Assist, Bolero, and I think, the standard manual aircon.

It does however get the LED DRLs and projector headlamps here.

Even the Style (SEL) level here doesn’t get Front Assist, and it gets only manual aircon, (have rarely seen auto aircon/Climate on Fabias here). Tthe standard radio specs have been lower here across the range - my early Style got a Swing radio when the Uk ones at the same time had Boleros. (They appear to have evened this up in the last year )

Smaller wheels  on Ambition with higher  aspect ratio, probably reason for lower road noise. My one  (on 16s) is fine on road noise levels, though had a loan of one on 17s and it was noticeably harder around town.  Style level also gets under bonnet noise insulation - as I recall - absent on Ambition.

Octavia seems to fare better with spec at that mid-level.

Overlooking these (kinda annoying) issues - it’s still a great little car to drive!
