I’m coming back! I have a few questions

Featured Replies

A few years ago I sold my superb 3.6 and haven’t been on the forum much since. I’m now on the verge of buying a new Kodiaq, but have a few questions. I’m torn between the edition and sport line models. It will be the 190 diesel 4X4 model in either case, probably in meteor grey.

I like the look of the sportline but the Alcantara trim puts me of because I have 3 young kids who I imagine wll have it sticky and grubby in no time. The edition comes with leather so that is a plus. Is there any other key differences between the models other than the bigger bumpers and larger wheels of the sportline?

The only upgrade I’m considering is the speaker upgrade, is it worth it? Is there much difference? Is the standard system better than average?

Does anyone have an opinion on if the Alcantara is hard wearing and easy to clean?

Is  the sportline much noisier or harder riding due to the larger wheels?

I’m hopeful looking forward to driving a Skoda.

thanks for looking.

The SportLine gets colour coded bumpers, black pack, black headlining, carbon effect dash trim, flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminium pedals, bespoke sports seats and 20" alloys.

Instead the Edition gets the fancy electrical gizmo's such as ACC, blind spot assist, lane assist, automatic switching of main beam etc.

We have alcantara in our Kodiaq Scout and had it in our Octavia before that. I also have it in my Superb. The kids don't get anywhere near it as I have protector pads under their car seats. The central seat panel, rear armrest and backs of the front seat aren't alcantara so the only way they'll get to it is if they end up climbing on or over the front seats. On the rare occasion I've spilt stuff on it I've found it cleans just fine with a wet cloth.

Opinions on Canton vary, some love it, others haven't noticed much difference. The early UK cars git it as standard (an FOC upgrade) so there should be plenty of members on here that can give feedback.

Some people who test drove the SportLine noticed a more firm ride and increased road noise from the larger wheels.

Thanks for the reply, I really am torn between the two. The addition of the ACC on the edition is something I hadn’t picked up before so thanks for pointing that out. I’ve never had that on a car before so would like to try that out.

Ive not sat in a sportline so not sure how the sport line seats would feel. I’m 18 stone with a 48 inch chest, would I fit in the sportline seats?

Sorry, my bad, ACC isn't standard on the Edition, I thought it was. It looks to be a £305 option on all models.

This does at least make the SportLines £550 premium over the Edition better value though.

The SportLine seats are bound to be more supportive i.e. a tighter fit, but it looks to largely around the bolsters. Assuming you can fit between them then I'm sure you'll be fine!

Nope. That's an option. Cruise control is standard, but not ACC.

Edit: Ah, you corrected yourself while I was typing that!

Ok thanks for setting that right for me. The picture of the sports seats looks like I’ll fit fine, the only time I found a seat uncomfortable was in a C63 AMG (not mine unfortunately). Everything else has been no problem. Any other options people consider a must have?

I'll caveat this straight away by saying I've not sat in one - but apart from the headrests they look the same shape as the normal seats. The side bolsters don't look any bigger to me.

You might be right, here are the regular seats, both the base and side bolsters look to be the same.

This means the only difference with the SportLine seats is the quilted pattern and the loss of an adjustable headrest!

I suppose it could be argued that the side bolsters extend further up the height of the seat.

Spare wheel.

Heated windscreen.

Panoramic sunroof if you're feeling flush :D

Ok I placed my order this morning. Finally decided to go with the sportline.

It’s a sportline 2.0tdi 190 4x4 DSG in Meteor Grey. The only option I specified in the end was front parking sensors.

Delivery time was given as approximately 17 weeks.
