Electronic Handbrake issues

Featured Replies

Over the last few days I've had the handbrake randomly switch on. It usually happens when auto-hold is on and I'm pulling away but obviously below the speed that allows the handbrake to still be applied. It's not collision detection kicking in as I've triggered that a few times and it doesn't give the audible warning or the DIS warning. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue?

Do you mean that when you try to set off, the handbrake / auto hold does not automatically disable once you lift the clutch up in gear ?

Could it be this issue?

It's after the auto hold has dis-engaged. I would be moving slowly and the the handbrake just switches on. I even get the red handbrake light on. You can feel the rear suspension dropping and the rear wheels locking. After it happens I just pull away again and the handbrake switches off as normal. I've have it for 18 months without issue. It had a wheel alignment done the other day after a tire change but I can't think how that could be related. I assume the brake lights aren't coming on when it stops suddenly like that which is a bit concerning.

I think you need to get that into a dealer/specialist asap. If they missed a necessary recalibration at the alignment then I’m sure you would have a lane assist warning (or similar) but maybe something else was damaged?

EDIT: also switch off auto-hold until it's sorted

Who did the tyre change / alignment check and was there adjustment done?   If only since that done then that would be first choice on possible issue.

Nothing as simple as door catch / switch, seat belt issue is it applying the E brake?

I did start to think it might be a dodgy door switch or something similar. The fault hasn't happened again since my last post so I'll chalk it up to a glitch but If it comes back I'll let the dealer have a look. Thanks for your advice.
