Tried everything (almost)

Featured Replies

Hi all, although I often look for help on Briskoda after 3 SKODA’s my forth is giving grief. It is a petrol Fabia 1.4 16v with a few problems which I think are related. It regularly dies when stopping at lights etc. The rev counter hunts between 800 and 1200 rpm. Driving on open road keeps missing.  The accelerator becomes dead. If you stop for 5 minutes all comes back to life. Have replaced EGR valve, fuel filter, vacuum hose servo to cylinder head all with no success. Any help would be much appreciated.

Check plugs and coil packs.

Thanks, replaced plugs, will get/replace coil pack(s). I’ve read that fuel pumps are problematic!

Have you had it code read? Why not do that rather than chucking money at it for common faults and hoping one of them fixes it?

Not really, I would definitely get the codes scanned and read to speed this process up and cut costs.

Worth putting your approx. location in your profile @Bengal, you might be close to one of us who could scan it for you.

Thanks for the replies. Had the car scanned, no fault codes. My local (Dartford) volks garage did the scan. He checked for any air/vacuum leaks, none. Very occasionally you can drive a fair way with no problems. Restart and back to square one!! The volks garage is having the car in next week to see if the ECU is causing the problem. I haven’t replaced the fuel pump or relay as I’m not sure this could produce these results.
