Regens every 150 miles

Featured Replies

You've got logs all the way back to 2018-06-21 12:18:17 concatenated into a single file which is probably confusing you. It might be worth deleting the file between logging sessions in future ;)

Anyway, I pulled off the last drive from the end of the file for you: Vag_DPF_log-lastdrive.txt

Most obvious issue is that most (all?) your regens seem to be taking ages! That log suggests it was still doing an active regen after 65 minutes, to put it in to context, I've recorded two regens in my unfixed CFHC which took 5.2 and 6.3 minutes.

It almost looks like it's struggling to get the DPF up to temperature. Mine seems to stay above 600'C, at least based on EGR temperature sensors 3 and 4 which I think match DPF in and DPF out in the VAG DPF app.

Thanks, certain tech is a steepish learning curve for me, with your info I am starting to get some clarity.

Maybe I need to get the skoda chaps to have a more detailed look into things - from my reasonably trained old school ear, this engine is not happy sometimes, yet others its as a smooth as can be.

I can tell by ear just prior to the regens showing up on the app ??

Its maybe time to get vcds...I used ross tech on audi in the past for basic diagnosis...saved me a fortune in garage bills.

VCDS might help, although if there are no fault codes it's only going to be useful to log various parameters and compare them to another car. It might be a faulty sensor which could be tricky to track down.

I've graphed a regen from each of our cars. It could also be a function of the roads that were being travelled on during the regen.

Mine probably happened while I travelling at 70 mph or similar depending on traffic. Your log appeared to start at 2018-08-28 17:48:10 so you might have a better idea where you were driving at the time...

That graph is very impressive, thanks again.

I was driving on A roads and it was indeed struggling to get upto temperature.

Being aware the regen had started, I gave it a few healthy blasts up the back roads, but it did seem to struggle on this one.

Cheers

Certainly seems more normal, looks to have taken 200-250 seconds.

It's the post injection fueling that heats up the dpf mostly. I don't get why people think giving it a good blast is going to help. Pre dpf giving a diesel a blast creates soot out the back, that still happens but you can't see it because it gets stuck in the dpf. More soot getting stuck.

My 2.0tdi happily does a regen on country A and B roads driven in a pretty relaxed way on my way to work which is 30min and 15 miles, it'll have finished in that time too.

If yours takes an hour or isn't getting up to temp then there surely is an issue somewhere.
