3.6 remaps

Featured Replies

I have just recently purchased a used Superb mk2 with the V6 engine. I understand that the engine is a variant of what went into the R36. However, the R36 had different internals and a different map.

I have been looking at maps and most seem to quote 280bhp. The car feels quicker than 260 and I have had a few cars that have dyno higher than stock figures.

So what maps are recommended or am I just wasting my money.

I've ordered a custom map, with the idea of lowering the fuel consumption (curiosity killed the cat - had the dump of the existing car's map sent to the specialist, and received the modified map back) ... tested with the software, the changes have been made and it should be working, but didn't have the time to apply it to my car ... always something to fix, so I won't touch the thing unless I'm certain the car is 100% ready, because I won't know whether or not the map is actually any good or not ... from some other forums I've read (map/ecu tuner based), there is very little to gain on the FSI engines of that generation ... TDIs are much simpler in that regard and can show power-ups more easily with "simple" remaps ... then again, I know of a pro-tuned 3.6 FSI that outputs 405 HP (reaching Stage 3), so go figure ... someone obviously knows how to do these things properly

When there's no turbo to tweak it's much harder to realise gains from a remap alone.

Exactly, you can fine tune-it, but just that ... fine tune-it ... one thing that could be adjusted (actually, removed) is the start-up engine high revs (the FSI is factory mapped to reach the working temperature as quickly as possible), which would remove the sometimes annoying 5-10 secs of auto revving the engine at about 1200 RPMs (those who have such engines know what i'm talking about) when the engine is cold ... no apparent downsides to this being done, unless you'd want to floor the engine from the first second every time you start the car from then onward  ... it might not like that in the long run
