First Problem 2018 vrs diesel

Featured Replies

As per title...

Drove the 4 miles from house down to supermarket. VERY wet.

Parked up, did shop and returned to car. Started up and uh oh.... "Start stop system error" warning on dash so pressed start stop button in console.

Then flashing glow plug sign on dash. No power on drive home and car would not go sbove 35mph climbing hill. Switch off at house, unload then go to restart. No warning lights, engine running fine take it a run up road and absolutely perfect.

Any suggestions as to possible cause or just "electronic hiccup"? Hopefully wont happen again....

Cheers

Have you got an OBD reader? I would check errors, if any.

Nope. Not got any diagnostics or would have tried that. Bloody weird that switch off for couple of minutes and all ok.....

Notify dealer ASAP, even if you can't get there straightaway. That way, they will have it on record.

Do this every time it happens, otherwise it's far harder to convince them there is a problem when (as usually happens) nothing occurs whilst they have it in for inspection...

Could be a faulty pressure boost sensor.

Start a log of such events, and report it immediately by email to the supplying dealer. If it's happened once my bet is it will happen again. It's important you start a paper trail in case it gets worse. It  may go away and return later. Either way you need to keep an "audit trail" of evidence incase the dealer just says " no fault found " all the time. If it were me I'd buy a code reader as well.

Thanks for replies. It has been noted and recorded and emailed lease company (no idea who supplying dealer is). only 3400 miles on clock...

Probably entirely unrelated but  I noticed midweek that the dials don't do their "sweep" clockwise and back to zero as they did....

The needle sweep sometimes doesn’t happen if you turn the key too quickly in the ignition barrel.  Discovered this when mine was new. Slow down your wrist action and it’ll probably be fine.

Gaz

Get pics and videos where possible as back up evidence on your phone.

So this sounds similar to an issue I had when I picked mine up last year, but I have a petrol.  I’d get the Start/Stop warning and then limp mode. Sometimes cycling the power would remove the error, sometimes not. Turned out that something (a sensor of some sort) was not plugged in correctly and wasn’t making a proper connection. Unfortunately I can’t remember any more details than that though, sorry.

Update....

Went to cut down hawthorn hedge at friend's this morning and ran fine. Went to come home and same problem. Start stop error then flashing glow plug and no power.

Read above post so engine cover off and removed every sensor plug I could find and reseated them all. Started fine and ran fine. Stopped and restarted a dozen times and seems to be OK. Noted it down again.

if it does happen again then it will be 3rd time unlucky and going in to dealer (Oswestry nearest me)

Cheers

Oswestry? Oh dear, I wish you luck.

My experience with them has been appalling - so much so that I drive straight past and carry on to Mitchells at Cheshire Oaks.

That error message has happened to when but I know my battery was a bit low on charge. It didn't go into limp home however.

After a proper run in the car it was back to normal

Without reading the fault codes you can only guess at what the error is.

Glow-plug lamp flashing indicates there is an error reported by the ECU which is not emissions relevant (or hasnt occured enough times yet to be emissions relevant).

StopStart Error/Unavailable is given on the maxidot for pretty much all ECU faults, its just a badly worded message telling you that StopStart cannot be used because there is a fault recorded by the ECU.

As its Under warrenty, I'd go back to the dealer ASAP.

For now it is intermittant but the law of sod will say if you dont do anything it will happen again when you need to take your wife to hospital or are 5000km away on Holiday in eastern Europe.

In switzerland, Skoda/VAG have a "15 minute drop-in" service where you can just drive up, tell them your problem & someone will quickly diagnose the potential cause.

Do they not do this in the uk?

What's the problem in eastern Europe?  we have here Skoda dealers and good mechanics as well :giggle:

There is a start/stop software update which does address a starting issue, mine wouldn't pull away until I found to turn the stop/start off as soon as I started the car
