Can i do N249 bypass with the DV blanked off?

Featured Replies

My car is a 02 octavia vrs (ko3s) i have owned the car for 3 years now and am very happy with it. The car has the following done to it.

Pipper exhaust cat back

Stardard air box drilled with standard filter

Blanked off dv

Standard NGK platinums

Mapped.

All this was done by previous owner and car runs that good i have not changed a thing. I get 38-40mpg nipping about and 45mpg with my 5 in it and filled on road trips. I can only guess its 210-20bhp but feels quicker. It beats 225 focus st, some scoobys, civic type r's ect. Anyway my question is im getting boost problems, cars fine driving normal and i can get full boost going through the gears then it dies again. Can turn it on and off and full boost for 5min. Code that came up was n249 machanical malfunction. I have read i can bypass or remove this n249, but is there a way of doing it if you have a blanked DV like me as one of the hoses goes from DV to manifold and because mine is blanked i have no where to connect this too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have looked alot on this forum but cant seem to find anyone that has the dv blanked.

You won't find many people with the DV blanked off because you need it operation to stop you from ruining your turbo. No wonder you are having N249 error codes thrown. The N249 controls the DV unless it has already been deleted, either way, the car must know from massive boost spikes that your not running a DV and is putting your car into limp mode.

The car needs the DV and N249 recommissioning before you blow you do serious damage

Hi thanks for getting back to me, as you can probably tell im not machanical minded and this is the first turbo car iv owned. I have only just recently got this ploblem and never had any codes, running problems, limp mode, boost spikes ect in 3 years till now. Car has full boost for about 5 mins and its like ECU figers something is wrong and cuts power. Car runs as it great on normal driving and always great on fuel. My brother in law is a mechanic and looked over the car when i got it and only ever said that someone blanked dv bevause it was probably broken and person just blanked it instaed of buying new one, but has never said about the affects. He has same auq engine in his seat leon mk1. You now have me really worried. I will take pics and put them up. Thanks agaim for your quick response.

As far as i can see there is two hoses that have been bolted. Big one in second pic and the one on bottom right corner of first pic. Think this is what would go to my dv if it was there. So this setup is very bad for my turbo?

40mpg nipping about!!

Wife gets 36mpg i can get up to 40 at best nipping about, obviously driving like a granny, 38mpg most of time sitting at 65 max and sticking to speed limit. Car was at 33mpg when i baught it.

I'd get a forge 007p recirculation valve chucked on that asap.

A standard one may be ok but might not like the extra boost from your map

Yeah was thinking of doing that, i have a Bailey's dv in my boot that my brother in law gave me but never put it on because car was going that good didn't want to changed anything.

I am going to put the Bailey's one on over weekend and see how it runs, think i will order a forge one tho thanks. Are one's on ebay genuine?

I went for a second hand one and had to purchase a new spring kit as mine had a blue one fitted which no Ko3s turbo will ever need.

Believe its yellow you'll need.

Remember its a recirculation valve you need not a "dump" or "blow off" valve as these dont work on our engines.

To be honest there isnt much to them so wouldnt necessarily pay for the forge name if you dont have to

Yeah i mite look into that option too, i was shocked at how much they are! I wondered about the springs, so just a yellow i will be fine for my car if i get one.

Thanks i will make sure i get a recirculation valve, i had heard our engines don't like anything else and people getting problems using other one's.

Im going to try the Bailey's one anyway and see how car likes it. And if you say there's not much in them i mite just stick with that.

Will give it a go over the weekend and let you know how i get on. Cheers

The latest revision of the stock DV is capable of handling well over 20Psi of boost so don't assume you have to go aftermarket,

Yeah i had heard the stock dv does its job great but just don't last on mapped cars. Did think about that option too. But would rather have reliability even if it costs alot more.

How come im getting better mpg than most people on here as well with this set up and i have never had any running issues till recently and thats been nearly 3 years. Do you think my cars been mapped liked that and thats why i have never had any codes and running problems?

Was going to change dv over today but weather was terrible and doing it in my drive. Hopefully get it done tomorrow

I am used to 3.0 turbo diesel BMW's which are most economical between 80-85mph on the motorway.

The smaller lump in the Skoda is happier at 70 or under but I haven't yet adjusted to that so the best I see is 42mpg on a run.

I tend to drive the rest of the time as if my trousers are on fire but still seem to average 32ish

People think the stock DV isn't reliable but that's because people buy an old 1.8T and start tuning it and then they find the stock DV has had it and buy a forge one. If you buy a forge valve and run it for a decade and 100K without maintenance it would also leak boost because it also relies on consumable parts to work.

Not having a DV does not alter how the car runs at all, but when you are on the throttle and are creating boost, or even worse, wide open throttle and creating max boost and you suddenly let off the throttle, all of that pressure in the system has to go somewhere and that somewhere is back through the turbo which slows it down rapidly which will shorten its life dramatically.

The 008 is the updated valve , many horrendous fakes on eBay, any genuine sellers will be at our RRP, if it looks too cheap its a fake.

The Forge valve is guaranteed for life.

I have a box full of failed Bosch valves here , even the latest version still fails.

we supplied  a 008 to our local Skoda dealer only last week
