The phantom of the co-lum-bus is there, inside my mind...

Featured Replies

Noticed some odd behaviour on the Columbus, and a quick search suggests I'm not alone, though mine's got a distinct pattern.

On the last 4 cold starts, the radio has, after 30-60 seconds, tuned to the DAB preset 1 lower in the preset list.

The presets are, as any normal, sane human would do; Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, BBC World Service, Absolute 80's. It probably goes without saying that 1 & 3 don't get selected and are merely there for completeness, and radio 2 is solely to keep the missus happy listening to EPOS.

But I digress.

On the last 4 starts, the car has started on one channel (what was selected when the car last speed) then fairly soon, swapped to the adjacent, lower channel.

Radio 4 to Radio 3

Radio 4 Extra to Radio 4

Radio 4 Extra to Radio 4

Radio 4 to Radio 3

After that it behaves (apart from occasionally disconnecting/reconnecting the phone, asking for Bluetooth pairing and don't get me started on Media Command...)

Others have reported somewhat random behaviour, but this has me intrigued as it's following a pattern.

Clean the screen for a cheap & simple start.

I'll give that a try later (after seeing if it happens again on my drive home from work)

Some people have recommended Methylated spirit. Personally I would use a branded screen cleaner.

Might be gesture control picking up your hand. I turned mine off due to it changing channel occasionaly when I changed gear.

Could this be driver profile related?  Does personalisation even store/remember media preferences?

^^^ according to to page 54 of the manual, Overview of some personalized functions:

Infotainment settings - brightness level of the screen, keyboard arrangement
Radio - sound settings, station sorting

Media - shuffle / repeat titled, selected video format.

There's a few more such as Driver mode and drivers seat settings but these above relate to the Columbus so thought they may be of help.

Hands have definitely both been on the wheel, and I've only ever used one key in the car/there's only one profile

All my presets vanish with monotonous regularity.......

I'm cycling a lot at the moment so the Superb doesn't get used much at the moment.

I used it today. It didn't change.

Well, I've cleaned the screen and it's spotless.

What i've noticed is that the channel change thing only happens (as far as I can tell so far) when the Columbus is on the "radio" screen - note that I put it on the radio screen and then cleaned the screen. It doesn't seem to happen with the map screen up etc.

I've had it happen almost instantaneously, just down the road and after 11 minute/6 miles, but never more than once a journey.

It's definitely haunted.

At least the Android Auto disconnect/reconnect problem has been resolved. Dodgy cable, or more specifically two dodgy cables, which is why swapping the cables didn't fix the problem. With the third cable it's problem solved.

Ruddy thing went "up" one this morning. Still, the programme on 4Extra was better than the Today programme so I didn't complain

I've been meaning to say that I've turned off gesture control and as of by magic the problem has gone away.

I'd not realised that it had gesture control, and it seems somewhat pointless, so switching it off is no great loss.

Quite why it would only react once per journey, who knows, but I'll stop worrying about it now.
