Service to do list

Featured Replies

Hi

just wondering if there is a ‘list’ online of the things the 2nd/40k service entail - or basically what the car needs after nearly 3yrs of use? My car is on 36k, 3mths short of its 3rd birthday, it’s due a service but going to independent so want a list of jobs for the mechanic to do with Skoda parts.

I’m aware of the vague one on the manufacturers website but is there a more comprehensive one?

Looking at Erwin? But don’t want to pay out for access for to be a complete waste of time.

TIA

Spend time doing your own checks regularly.

If you want work doing maybe go to an Independent Specialist.

Oil / Filter is annually / 9,400 miles or variable up to 24 months, 18,000 - 20,000 miles.

Pollen filter every 2 years or depends on where you drive, weather etc.

Air filter 40,000 miles, or depends, where you drive, weather etc.

Brake Fluid change at 3 years, or check the H2o content, change then every 2 years.  Check H2o content maybe do not change.

DSG Fluid at 40,000 miles.  Haldex Oil / Filter 3 years, or 30,000 miles or 40,000 miles. depends who is telling you.

Free wash and vacuum often @ Main Dealers, might take longer than the actual service,

doors lubed, tyres checked, steering, brakes etc etc.  Servicing & Maintenance is all about preventive and safety,

Maybe not with main dealers, it is about 'money for old rope'.

Is there an age limit for the DSG oil?

My car doesn't do a lot of mileage, so it may take 6 years to do the 40k (most of which will be at 50+ mph)

'They' never gave a time / age for DSG oil changes just the 40,000 miles (not with DQ200 DSG's, no service guidelines for those.)

So VW / SEAT / Skoda shows 40,000 miles for DSG's and Audi 38,000 for S-tronics which are DSG by another name.

The thing with Preventative Servicing and Maintenance and Manufacturers Guidelines or Schedules is they are there for owners and drivers to think about how you drive, where and when etc.

With Fluids you might think are they hygroscopic so should they be changed when in brake systems of other hydraulic systems.

Certainly pretty important to change the DSG Oils in wet clutch versions.

If someone doing only 5,000 miles a year only gets it changed after 8 years might cause them no issues.

Auto Gearbox specialists are the ones that should know best, a Main Dealership Receptionist at the Service Desk only has a computer to refer to or the Master Tech, or maybe someone that gets taught what they pick up from others or fail to pick up on.

My 2015 Mk3 1.6CR is a taxi and gets an oil and filter change on or just before every 9400 miles. It takes a further ten minutes and £20 to change the fuel filter and air filter so they get done too.

I bought the car at 36k and have since had six services done (2 dealer and the rest by me) and we’re now on 94k.

Been quoted £69 for the Haldex oil change from my local Skoda dealer and they said it’s due at 40,000 miles.

^^^ As they do.  Then they might or might not know if there is a filter.

Try a VW Dealership and they might say 30,000 miles, or 3 years,

try an Audi Dealership and who knows what they might say.

Maybe,

'Every 3 years regardless of mileage...'

The USA obviously, but then Audi / VW are not risk takers there, people sue.

They said no filter for my car I gave them the reg to be sure, I just wanted to see what they quoted, my mate has a VW/Audi, Skoda etc garage and usually looks after my cars, my mk2 Scout cost £120 for the Haldex service so I was pleasantly surprised.
