Can I just confirm that this split hose is the air con hose. 

Any negatives to just leaving it as it is and just winding the windows down instead?

That's only a heatshield layer that's bust, isn't it?

Yep it is! Never wanted to really pull it apart but just gone and had an other look at it and there is a rubber hose underneath that which looks fine. My AC makes a horrible hissing noise when on so always just presumed the pipe was split.

The system will just need regassed, I seem to remember that that protective sleeve is easily damaged if like me you remove and fit the oil filter from above!

 

Edit:- I thought that places like ATS were doing good deals right now on recharging A/C systems, maybe better with Groupon discount if available.
