Top tether points on 2010 Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I`ve just purchased a 2nd hand 2010 Octavia VRS estate and want to know if the metal anchor points in the boot can be used as the top tether points for a iso fix car seat. I don`t have the ones that are built into the seat like the attached image but they seem fairly sturdy as i pull on them and the car lifts upwards but are they safe for the top tether on a car seat?  My first Octavia VRS and i already love it.

Cheers

I think your find the top tether points you are looking for are in the middle of the rear seat.

Hi, The picture is not of my car but one off the web. I don`t have the tether points in the rear seat only the anchor points circled in the picture.

I thought all cars from around 1998 Golfs and Mk2 Octy had isofix brackets on the rear seats. My 2005 elegance seat bases have zips on the cushion to allow access to the metal where I presume they clamp to. I only ever had child seats which use the belt my self for our kids, even when ISO fox was out, as one of my cars was too old for it at the time.

The top tethering bracket should be on the back of the rear seats ( in the boot side )  The isofix points in the seat bases should be hidden behind Zips or plastic covers

On my 2011 estate there are two Isofix anchor points in the centre of the two outermost seat backs. Strange yours are missing.

He's not talking about isofix points behind the zips in the seat base, but the additional tether strap that is used when fitting some isofix car seats.

Mine is a 2005 and also doesn't have the anchor points on the seat back.

I used the luggage anchor furthest in the boot, which is just behind the seat base on the outer sides of the boot.

You can see the right hand side one on your picture.

It's welded to the car and as you've said, the car moves with it if you lift them up and down.

They are definitely strong enough for the tether strap.

I think I know what you mean now. I saw a metal area on the back of a 2013 Leon we bought. Wondered what it was for on both back seats actually.

This picture shows how they connect to the seat back.

It stops the child seat flipping forwards.

Unfortunately the OP does not have those anchor points on his seats hence the question about using the tether points in the boot floor

Taken from the owners manual of my 2012 car. As said by a previous poster, the webbing clips to a fitting in the centre of each rear seat. I don't have the additional central seat mounting shown below.

If you do not have the rear mounting shown in the photo, you can download a copy of your owners manual from the sticky at the top of this forum. Note that the clipping point shown at the bottom right of the photo is for a cargo net, not a child seat tether.

Additional info added

have you felt the back of the seat? in our Qashqai the tether points were under the seat covering and you were required the cut the back of the seat to access the tether point

The tether points on the back of the seats came in as standard on MY11 Octavias.

Just to be clear, when I say fix it to the luggage anchor I don't mean the plastic clip, but the metal hoop that is welded into the car.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the replying and thanks for softscoop for supplying a photo of the top tether. This is exactly what i was after. To clarify, my 2010 Octavia estate does not have the anchor points in the rear of the seat but does have the 2 iso fix points which the car seat clicks into. I feel happy that someone else has attached the top tether to the metal mounting point located in the boot.

Are you sure you even need the top tether? its not a requirement in all cases to have one, it all depends on the seat and the car.

We already have a car seat which has the top tether along with the two iso fix mounting points. In our golf it has a symbol next to the anchor point in the boot to show where the top tether goes so i was checking if it was possible to use the car seat in the 2010 VRS i just purchased. I was hoping i didn`t have to get a new car seat and to save some cash.

I have a Child seat in the rear for one of the grandkids.  I used the Isofix and the top tether. I think in the event on an accident or a rear end shunt the seat could move forward at the top whilst the seat base remains in the isofix system.  Belt and braces.

Got the same issue on mine, it doesn't have the mid seat tether points, but being an estate it does have the metal luggage loops the picture shows Softscoop fixed it to. Seeing as the rear seat moves forward/folds down, and therefore surely can't be that structural, is there any reason how those loops simply cannot be man enough for the same job bearing in mind they're welded into the chassis as opposed to just part of a moveable seat itself?! Common sense makes me think it should be absolutely fine, but obviously it's not technically a top tether point. Thoughts?

As I said above, With the car seats I've had its not been a requirement to use the top tether at all, and from how rigid the seat is just from the two points on the seat base I never felt the need to but if you want the belt and braces approach I don't see why you couldn't attach it bearing in mind that although it may look strong its not technically rated as a safety device.
