Really quick one but I'm looking at some TT MK1 Ronal wheels for my 2003 VRS estate.

 

Diameter: 18"

Width: 7.5J

ET: 32

 

Planning on 225/40/18s.

 

I know a 17" would fit. Will 18" also fit without trouble/rubbing? I'm on stock suspension at the moment but might lower slightly in the future.

According to this, a 2003 Octavia VRS came from the factory with

225/45 R17 and an offset of 38. Maybe compare those 2 sizes and see how big a difference it is (or isn't).

Yeah, I've used the calculator and then measured the difference with a tape measure on the car. It's really tight so need to know if someone's tried that exact size

Factory tyre size for VRS with 17s is 205/50/17, but many people (myself included) fit 225/45/17 instead because there is more choice and they're a bit cheaper.

 

@eyestwice I've seen plenty of Octavias/Golfs/Leons/Boras/A3s etc. with TT wheels before. My guess is that they should fit OK.

I've noticed some people running TT 17s so that'll be my fallback option. But if the 18s will fit...

Yes will fit with no issues.

Its the width of wheels that cause issues as rule not the rolling radius unless you go stupid. 

 

Most Mk4's out there run 18x8's 

Leon Cupra are the same, 

I had a set of Porsche twists on a Mk4 with no issues 18x9/8

But then changed to a set of 17x10 rear porsche rims

 

General rule if it fits a Mk4 or a Bora then it'll fit the octavia

Easiest way to work out the rolling radius of wheels

 

Standard wheels 17" with 205/50

The 50 of the tyre is worked out as a percentage of the width

So in this case 205÷2=102.5

 

17" in metric is 432mm

 

432 + 102.5 + 102.5 = 637mm 

 

18" 225/40 using the same equation 

457 + 90 + 90 = 637mm 

 

Normally you'd subtract one from the other to work out the difference between the two but in this case its exactly the same and already stated some owners run a 225 width already so no worries

Offset isnt far enough from standard to make any difference. 6mm wont matter
