DVLA Details Incorrect - Ltd Edition Octy VRS Petrol

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I believe that the DVLA may well have recorded the details of people Octavia VRS LTD edition incorrectly.

Ever since I have had my Petrol VRS ltd edition, every time I typed the number plate into a comparison site it always came up as a Diesel, which never used to bother me as I could always get around it by manually entering the correct car details. However my cheapest quote this year, Hastings direct wouldn't let me do this... so I started digging.

On my log book the cars CC is recorded as 1968cc whereas all VW documents point towards the petrol engine (CCZA) in my car as being 1984CC... So basically everytime I tell Hastings website that mine is a petrol with 1968cc is is saying that this car doesn't exist as 1968CC cars are dirty diesels.

I found a photo of someones Petrol Ltd edition VRS and punched there number plate into the DVLA info check and this again came back as 1968cc .... can of worms opening... big DVLA screw up?

Dan

I had something similar this year with my diesel, i changed reg plates and when the insurance came around i had quotes on the old reg and with the new reg it had gone up by £100, i asked why and they said it was because it was a limited edition, I said it was a limited edition before the reg change but they said it was coming up just as a VRS Diesel Estate beforehand, I checked the log books as I had one with the old reg and the new one and sure enough the DVLA had changed the description.

Seems they have cocked up on them, best bet would be to get in touch with the DVLA and tell them the details are wrong.

DVLA have one task, to mess up information you send to them! They did the same with my project car, its had an engine swap and I updated the details for the engine before it went in the car with the info they need as the engine code etc is impossible to see with the engine in. Moved house a little later and when updating my address they have somehow swapped the engine info back to standard, tried to contact them to get it re-done but aparently the old data has been destroyed. So I've given up and now have a 2 litre 4cyl 3litre V6 in my car :D

^^^This^^^

In 1990, I bought a new Honda CG125 to commute to my new job.

Whilst looking through the Registration Document, I noticed the Means of Propulsion listed as "Steam".

There followed a lot of leg-pulling by my new workmates :D

Ignore them... They are full of hot air!

If you do write to them and don't hear back you need to chase them. They don't get in touch in the event of a problem.

The only way it would seem I can contact them to get this rectified is to send my logbook in with the corrected engine CC, along with evidence of the fact that its incorrect.

I would really rather speak to someone first to confirm there is an issue and then send my docs off.....

Make sure you keep a photocopy of your docs before sending them by recorded delivery ;)

Oh yeah I definitely will !

Read some horrible stories in motorcycle news a few years ago about people being forced to retake there bike tests having been on the road for 20 years due to the DVLA losing there records / liscence

That was computer records lost in a fire at the DVLA i believe, not that they usually admit what happens when.

Then not many that ended up with a class of licence giving them the code to drive vehicles they never passed a test for were not moaning about that.

There were lorry drivers that the DVLA removed classes of vehicles from their licenses leaving them unable to work.

They lost paperwork when I was trying to sort out my late wife's car and didn't tell me. I was filling in each stage of the process they said to not knowing that they'd lost a vital record right at the beginning and it was going to go no where. I phoned them after I'd run out of options and they admitted they'd lost the letter, knew they'd lost the letter but they don't get in touch to tell the client.

'kin useless.

They also moved a licence plate to the wrong car

Misspelled my name

Lost my Dad's license

Returned someone daughters new license with a picture of a bloke on it.

I think I've heard a story of a DVLA 'k-up from every person I've ever asked.

I also wanted to add to their uselessness. Being a Pad's brat , some Army guys may know what that means. I have Germany as my country of birth on my Licence. Well it would appear at the time it was a free text field. As The country of Birth ended up being 'Geramany'  (with an extra 'a') .  When I changed address I send ,my Photo-card back and circled the error. It was corrected. But really, it should never have been wrong in the first place. They can't even spell Geramany!!!

My dealings with DVLA are...

I tranferred a (personal) reg plate from a 1998 yr reg MX-5 to an 07 plate MX-5. I checked online that they had all the details correct a few weeks later after the swap, they had messed up. The 07 plate MX-5 had an MOT history going back to 2006, yup it was the history for the 1998 yr car. It was corrected eventually after I had emailed them.

No big deal but my 07 plate MX-5 now shows a slightly twisted wheel rim as an advisory on one test, it never showed that before the mix up???

The 1998 MX-5 showed up on the reg doc as a 4 seater.:notme:

My current Toledo SE Nav never shows up on comparison sites as an SE Nav, always as an SE only. I have to be careful to manually enter the details rather than trust the reg no.

Not sure you can hang that one on the DVLA. I had a 2004 model Renault Clio that was registered on 31/12/2003. That one was always a PITA to insure. then Renault forgot they made it and it was a PITA to find out what parts were in it.

It was an early 100hp dCi with a megane gearbox and Cup brakes. A right mongrel. Not a bad car though on the rare occations bits weren't falling off.

Could have been the supplying dealer that screwed up instead of DVLA

Might be worth asking them to send you a photocopy (or scan) of their file copy of when they first registered the car,

to see if they entered details wrongly, if s,  get them to sort it out (and follow up with a registered letter saying they can pay they extra insurance difference)

Apropo nothing at all, I think the malaise happens in all govt depts., I applied for Probate after  my mums death back this last May, should normally take 2-3 weeks, now  8 months on I have discovered the paperwork went missing although not before a £200+ cheque  was banked. I recently had a flurry of activity after emailing em proof of cashing of said cheque, now after a month I mail em to ask what progress, but no responses.

Govermental systems here in France were  always considered a joke but I think they are now UK based! Its that nice Mrs May's fault you know!!!!!  ; - D)

You are quite correct, just checked my reg doc, it does indeed say SE on it.

So the dealer has got it wrong when registering.

Simple thing to check for me Doh!

Thanks.

Our L&K shows up as Elegance. I bought it from a dealer when it was a year old. It has never bothered me. Do I have to go through the hassle to tell the DVLA that there might be a mistake. Everything else is correct like BhP, colour, gearbox...

It'll make a difference somewhere along the line. Like your insurance will no doubt be valid for an Elegance, but you won't actually be covered for an L&K.  That won't be easy to explain if you need to make a claim.

Dead easy to explain as happens in this thread.

You say the words and put them in writing to the Insurer & to the DVLA.   People who's full time job is at the DVLA seem to be unable to understand.

Same thing has been happening for decades and getting the DVLA to sort it can sometimes be a PITA!

Currently i have my Diesel Automatic Van insured and it is a different spec / trim from what is on the V5, different class and the DVLA says it never came as an automatic but it did clearly as the original invoice came with it to me.

'AVIVA' seem to understand how the DVLA works, or maybe dont...
