Xtreme 19” Alloys Best Set Up

Featured Replies

Skoda Octavia VRS Diesel currently running 225/40/R18 Bridgestone Potenza S001

I've just purchase the Xtreme 19inch Alloys and wondering what would be the best set up for the new alloys - 225/35/r19 - 235/35/r19 - or something different.

what would be the best tyres for theses also

I would go with Michelin PS4 on 235/35R19 if you can afford them. People that have fitted them seem to rate them highly and might give you a little more protection from kerbing as they stick out slightly more!B)

Thanks for your opinion, I was thinking of the 235/35/R19 - was looking at either the Michelin Pilot sport 4s or the GoodYear Eagle F1 ASY 3’s

I have the standard 225 width tyres on now but I am definitely interested in going for the 235 width when these wear out. The extra rim protection is worth it.

If you want or even would like to tune your car DON'T fit Eagle F1 A3's, a good tyre for everyday use but, no Fn use on a tuned TDI.

Just too much torque

I was thinking of doing the same when I had the Skoda with the Xtremes and the Seat came with that size by default (235/35/19) - they are a tad more comfortable, since there is a little bit more sidewall and for sure the extra width protects the rims more.

The design of the Xtremes is horrible... even with me being EXTRA careful, I managed to kerb 2 of them. They look great on the car, but not the most practical to live with on a daily basis.

Interested in this, can you elborate? too much wheel spin? Ive found mine to be night and day over the PZeros, and can put the power down much better with the AS3's. Ive got 225 35 and the lip is enough protection with the AS3s.

Doesnt the width affect the sidewall profile as well? read it on here somewhere

Personally I had A2 on a tuned vRS TDI MkII and while stomping as hell and fast cornering I had nothing but perfect traction and even consumption for the long life of the tyre.

I hardly believe the A3 can be worse, unless we talk of 500Nm+ torque which doesn't seem common on our derv engines.

In any case I think that you will end up with a great set of tyres.

I believe the solution to your question is within the complex formula of:

Best Setup (X) = Widest (:excl: x Most Expensive (:cash:(Knowledge (B)) - Trolls (:smirk:))

Also, 235/35 R19s are seemingly what most have setup on here on cars with mapped power, and also what I have (235 AS3s > 225 P-Zeros)

3 different member at the South East Central meets have said EF1A3's are not good enough for tuned engines.

The last member being a Mk3 TDI vRS whom really liked the tyres until he fitted a DTUK tuningbox & @Genoa1893 that does get to the 500Nm level on the DSG version.

I'm putting out between 460 & 500Nm now in a slightly tuned 245 with 235/35/R19 Michelin PS4S & it's so much better on the grip, yeah 1st & 2nd you've gotta feed it in but, 3rd onwards just let it have it, those tyres just Fn eats corners, you'll let go before the tyres do.

Depends how much you wanna compromise with tyre choice but, I don't wanna compromise AT ALL

PS4s woold be my No1 choice too but unfortunately i dont have your wallet. I have the DTUK box and my experience on AS3s are completely different. I cant remember the last time ive had wheel spin or felt like the car was going to let go.

Realistically although Michelin PS4 are probably the best, the differences between premium brands of tyre are surely fairly marginal?

Don't mean to raise a discussion, but surely different experiences shall also depend on driving habits and used tyre inflating pressures (I like mines on higher settings, btw).

When I had my AS2 I had a modified caster setup (Whiteline) and optimal traction and no axle-tramp even with increased torque and optimum consumption evenness.

And I used to push very quickly. In any case I honestly find the sentence " EF1A3's are not good enough for tuned engines" a bit generic, but to each its own...

So your saying you have 235’s on the front and 225’s on the rear how does that feel

Hi johnnyType2 - I have the same tune box DTUK - could you be not getting the wheel spin and hopping because of the 034 motorsport dogbone mount, this is on a diesel model VRS how do you find the ride with this now to before.

Nooooo - 235/35s all round :) (my comment was > = "Greater than..").

The ideal setup is the above; however, I didn't have the cash lying about to buy a full set of AS3s all at once - so I bought a pair, rotated the old rears (P-Zeros 225/35s) to the front, put new (AS3s 235/35s) on the back. Then, when I was able to, bought another pair of AS3 235/35s, moved the older rear set onto the front, and the new set on the rear.

Each to their own, and wallet-dependent. But it's made a world of difference to ride, lateral grip, and rim-protection - so it's well worth it in my book.

That would be to logical way to do Tyre change I’ve done that with all my cars, but I’ve got to buy a full set as it is only the alloys.

235/35 R19s I think everyone with 19s would agree that's the best sizing. PS4s, AS3s or other are up to personal choice and budget - best of luck in the search!

it certainly has stopped wheel hop altogether, wheel spin is likely due more to the change of tyres.

Your vehicle the diesel version right, I was informed by AMD that they wouldn’t advise to put the 034 motorsport dogbone mount on a diesel. So how does the vehicle ride with it would you recommend

I think I’ve been successful in ignoring recommendations of new dog bone mounts thus far as I really don’t have the money this month for more Octy toys, my son’s birthday was yesterday and my wedding anniversary is tomorrow (tbf it was my birthday on the 29th though, so I got some very nice non Skoda things) so I’m all spent up for a while. I am starting to falter though... I blame all of you! ALL OF YOU!!!!!!

Only really necessary if you're hoofing it about like an oaf often enough for wheel-hop to p*ss you off consistently - so... that was me covered by that criteria ;)

My AMG Mercedes is for sale so pretty soon the vRS will be the fastest car in the house. The wheel hop is annoying, and it’s caught me out enough to consider a new dog bone mount.

It seemed a little noisier for the first week but there's no noticeable difference after its settled in, its the best modification i've made, it really does kill any wheel hop and feels sharper through the gears.

The full dog bone isnt advisable on a diesel as the noise is supposed to be too loud but the 034 mount is a definite yes.

After the DTUK box it took very little wet or dry to get the wheels hopping, is been so long now since i had any that id actually forgotten how bad it was.
