MAF Removal

Featured Replies

does anyone have an idea of the Torx bit i need for removing the MAF sensor from its housing?

i have Torx bits including ones for screw heads that have the security pin in the centre but none of them fit the screw holding the MAF sensor in place.

i havent called the dealers yet cause i wanted to know if anyone on here had managed to source the correct bit first. Also as it involves me actually removing the sensor i didnt know if the dealers would be willing to sell me the part.

I can't believe the housing adds much to the price - why aren't you just buying it complete in its housing?

i only want to remove the sensor so i can clean it properly. up to now i've been having to spray contact cleaner "at" the sensor through the housing from either side... obviously this isnt ideal and isnt cleaning the sensor properly.

i've got to clean the induction kit soon and have a TIP to fit so wanted to make sure the MAF sensor was as clean as i can get it before putting everything back together.

sorry, should have mentioned that before.

I bought a security torx set from halfords - to find the bits in the set have 5 spoint - the screws on the MAF have 5 point stars.

A tamperproof Torx T-20H bit fits the 2 screws on my 2002 Octavia MAF although they are tamperproof Ribe screws rather than Torx. I believe that later MAFs use a screw with a 5 or 7 spline head (not sure which) rather than a 6 spline one - hence the problems some members are having when trying to use Torx bits.

Someone please tell me......what the @%* is the MAF? I have done a search but found no description.

Stupid question?

MassAirFlow meter - it's a device that measures the amount of air going into the engine. The EngineControlUnit (ECU) - the engine's "brain" - uses this information to determine how much fuel to inject, to give the correct air/fuel ratio.

But called an air volume meter in the official parts list...

I have a 52 plate octy vrs and the bits on mine are 5 star tamper-proof (think its a TS-25) Laser do a set of 5.Look on laser tools website part no 3389.I believe halfords sell them for about

I bought the laser set you mention but my car has different tamper proof screws :(
