TPMS fault. Has been scanned

Featured Replies

Hey all, wondering if anyone has experience or knowledge on what may be causing my issue.

A few days ago my tyre pressure light came on. It's refusing to reset.

A local friendly vagcom owner scanned the car and found -

01325 control module for tire pressure monitoring (j502)

004 - no signal

It won't clear/comes back immediately.

Before I go down the garage route can anyone shed light on what may be the cause? Many thanks

When I go searching the internet for this code, I find a few possible causes/solutions:

- wires or connections are faulty, solution: check/repair the wires/connections of the TMPS

- there is a control module fitted which doesn't support the CAN system,  place a module which supports CAN

-  a wrong adaption has been made (Adaption-10), select adaption-10 in the control module and put the correct code in it.

Number 2 doesn't make sense in this case, so numbers 1 and 3 remains.

Some useful info here

Cheers for the reply dude :)

I found the same or very similar information, the light popped on at random whilst driving so I guess that leaves wiring?

But other than the reset button I haven't a clue where to look. I'm presuming sensors and rings are fine as there's no abs or TC lights on

That's the first place I looked but not sure what it's actually telling me. A software update is required maybe?

You have checked the pressures, right?

Ye, but  I think they wouldn't make a difference in this case. Though I'm tempted to overinflate them to see if it trips it back to life or some such mumbo jumbo

Looks like j502 is a part of the ABS module rather than a separate module getting its info from there. So maybe have a look-see around there for any sign of wiring damage, water ingress, corroded contacts etc.

There is a single signal wire from the button to the abs unit from the switch. If the pin has come out or got corroded somehow I guess the abs unit will be expecting a connection (as per coding) and throws a fault when not finding it.  I would start looking there. I can't imagine its at the button end but obvioulsy easiest to check that first then move onto abs unit.

Good shout I'll explore that. I just got the car 3 weeks back and it's still under Arnold's warranty. I'd rather not have to deal with them but at least there's some sort of back up plan.

I might nip by Skoda and ask if there's an update and if it's free also

Pretty sure it is not a software issue. To be honest accessing the abs plug is fiddly especially with big hands. I would use the warranty especially given there may be water ingress near the unit.  Just make sure they fix it and don't simply code out the button!

I figured the software issue was a long shot on such an old car tbh. It's just the thought of arguing with Arnold and them having the car for ages. I don't see them as being able to sort it I'd imagine it'll need to go to Skoda etc etc.

But ye. If there's nothing obvious I'll take it to them next week and see

Follow up -

Arnold took the car in but couldn't sort it. They sent it Skoda who fixed it within a couple of hours.

I called Skoda to ask what had been done and the lady on the phone said it just needed reset. We tried that with vagcom and it just came right back, so I'm not sure I buy it.

Main thing is it's sorted! Sorry there's not more info to help anyone else with a similar fault.

Cheers for the input y'all
