Hesitation, engine turning off suddenly while driving

Featured Replies

Hello ! I will directly begin with the problem I have. The car is Fabia mk1 1.4 16v 100hp . Before time I had problems with the egr valve and the light was on. Somehow I figured out how to clean it and the engine check light went off. That made me think the problem has gone but anyway the car keeps going with the same symptoms that were on before the "repair": hesitation at low revs(rev counter arrow going up and down), slow acceleration, not good response (delay after pushing the pedal), and suddenly engine turning off while driving with high speed 100km/h or more then turning back on almost immediately. What I have already done is VCDS diagnostics (no any  faults, neither lights on the dashboard), changed the spark plugs even though I was sure that the problem isn't there. What would you recommend me to do or look for ?

Maybe check the crank sensor connection for signs of corrosion, or water having got in?

Also check the brake servo vacuum hose, looking carefully at the points where the hard plastic hose joins to other parts, it cracks.

...You mentioned driving fast, at high speed, what gear were you in and what were the revs showing when this happened? If travelling at high REVS, you might have just been bouncing off the rev limiter. Not likely but if you were, this is exactly what I would expect. Engine cuts out, revs drop, engine fires up again (And again).

Motorcyclists often do this for "Fun"!

I don't know about the petrol engines, but VAG diesels this vintage have soft governors that stop them revving higher rather than hard limiters that cut fuel and/or spark.

Thanks for the suggestions! By driving fast I mean fifth gear like 100 km/h 3-4k revs not more. I will appreciate any further help !
