My 58 Octavia tailgate can only be opened by using the ignition key, When the switch on the centre console is operated to unlock all doors the tailgate isn't one of them. as mentioned I have to use the key at all times to get into the boot.

Any suggestions as to the fault?

Does the tailgate unlock when you use the key or the fob to unlock the car?

My Octavia hasn't have a key lock on the tailgate, only able to open with key fob, I am unable to open it any other way

sorry mike I misunderstood, no the tailgate does not open when I open the car with key or fob.

If you stand beside the boot and try the fob, does it sound like its getting power? Or does it just sound dead?

Check the plug in the hinge for broken /corroded connectors or wires
