Fabia vRS stuttering - advice welcomed

Featured Replies

I've covered 5K now, and the car is still occasionally (about twice a day) stuttering. It tends to happen when coasting in 4/5/6th, usually at 60-80 mph, especially when backing off the throttle. It feels a bit like a car beginning to stall for a second, and then goes back to smooth running. I've done a search, and seen a thread with an octy VRS doing similar - but that

Mine is doing exactly the same, when closing the throttle sometimes I get a small amount of stuttering which feels just like the throttle control valve on a petrol injection, it makes progress in traffic a bit jerky, I have just swapped this car for an identical vRS which didn

Interesting - my car is getting more noisy bu the day - there is a distinct turbo whistle when under load, and when taking the foot off the power allowing the turbo to spool down (even just bliping the throttle when parked, clutch up, makes a whistle). I think it could be time for a visit to the dealers - although i'm sure mine will say its normal. I know its not.

Whistle = perfectly normal

Silly question, but have you checked your oil level ?

This may be the cause

Oil - OK

This whistle - definitely not normal, especially for a VAG TDi - sounds like a police siren.

hi there

mine is having stuttering motions but they are at normal speeds 30mph and 40mph not high speeds.

they happen when going through the gears 2nd 3rd 4th the car stutters when light throttle and also when backing off when close to a car infront and reapplying the accelerator lightly.

This doesn`t happen when briskly accelerating and it doesn`t happen all the time couple of days o.k next day stutters seems it can`t decide to add fuel or not.

car in dealers tomorrow to find problem and to rectify my engine is the new type to emmision regs has it happened on pre regs engines because I`m wondering if this is the reason.

I`ll post a thread to say what went on hope this helps

Mine the new block too - you've summed it up better than me. stutters under light throttle, and more whn backing off. Mine also goes days between 'episodes'.

Let me know what the verdict is. My dealer said i wasn't used of driving a turbo, and it was normal spool down. I told he i knew how to drive a car, this being my 4th non NA car, and my second TDi. Problem is - its intermitant.

We are having exactly the same symptoms with our new March 06 Fabia Vrs. SWMBO took it back to the dealer and although it did "stutter" when they did a test drive with her, they could find nothing wrong. I have noticed that it seems to be more economical than our last one (a 54 plate vRS) even in the first few hundred miles, so maybe the new mapping is a bit weaker to meet the emissions regs, and under some circumstances it's a bit too weak?

Maine was picked up jan 06, but is a 55 plate (did a good deal with the dealer). Car drove fine yesterday, but today, coasting at a steady speed on the motorway it started up again, still when backing off the throttle - happens for a second and stops. has also happened today under very gentel acceleration - first time.

You couldn’t point us in the general direction of the EGR System?

So we may act on your learned advice.

hi there

Took my furby into dealer hayseldon skoda to have prob checked out after test drive and having car hooked up nothing was displayed.

But they know about it due to one of their demos doing the same and that doesn`t show any probs on computer but the bloke who came on test drive told me that has demo car`s mileage has increased the prob has gone away.

They also did a quick check on the flywheel as some vag cars have had a prob they did this by running car in first gear to 4500 rpm then letting it slow down on it`s own then dipping the clutch if flywheel makes a certain noise then they check flywheel mine is ok but this has happened on other vag cars but the noise is suppose to be very loud so you will notice if you`ve got it and its a bit worrying to see your car revved that high with hardly any miles on it.

hope this helps

Very interesting stuff - mines been behaving again today, but who knows what tomorrow will bring....

Mine is in the dealers for new gear cables tomorrow - will print off this thread and ask them about the stuttering. no doubt they will try to wriggle out of commiting to do anything.

If the problem doesn't harm the car, and keeps at its current frequency i'll probably leave it, but its good to know what casues it.

Anyone know 'why' the stuttering happens, i don't know that much about the EGR, or VAG TDis?

The EGR system reduces emissions by recirculating exhaust gases' date=' here's some info on it

This is the link that pointed me in the direction or the EGR system being the problem in the first place
