speed limit + 1 mph

Featured Replies

There is a small village in Leicestershire called Sharnford. At the bottom of a steep hill there is a sharp left turn which has caught several drivers out over the years and they ended up crashing into a house (even had a moment there myself skidding on diesel probably left by a lorry driver with a missing fuel cap). Anyway local council recently fitted average speed cameras at both ends of the village and result is at least 200 drivers been caught speeding and fined! So beware if you find yourself on the B4114 between Narborough and Sharnford or the A5 and Sharnford.

  • Speaking of Fabia diesels SWMBO once collected a nice photo when clocked at 55mph in a 40mph zone. She tried to say it wasn't her driving but when I pointed out to her I don't have any hair and I'm no

  • I remember this from a few years back. I think it was a senior plod speaking at a conference or off the cuff not actually a real policy statement. It was resoundingly pooh-poohed as I recall.

Oh and since we're talking "speeding", I've been testing coast-down on the way into my village where there are count-down markers. Stay in gear and close the throttle at ~55mph (indicated) at the 300m marker, and I'm still doing 40mph (indicated) when I'm getting to the point where I'd be braking anyway for the 30mph speed limit.

I just went past a mobile speed van and was doing 26 but then accidentally went up to 32 when I was a good 6 car lengths past it... will I get done?

No they give you upto 34mph because of inaccurate speedo readings. Prosecutions start at 35mph and depending on where you live can be just Speed Awareness Course and no points.

Okay panic over! Thankyou I didn’t know if the 34mph thing was true or not!

Don't rely on anecdotal evidence of + figures. Friend of mine got a ticket from a traffic car when he was just over the limit because the inspector was out on a visit to Traffic and wanted to see someone get done.  The traffic cop actually apologised quietly as he handed out the fine.

They're trained to do that, to calm you and leave a positive image in your mind.

Leicestershire Traffic Cops are wonderful people when I was pulled over for slightly exceeding the speed limit once the normal checks of D.O.B. name, insurance and road tax were completed the officer let me go with a "watch your speed in future sir" to which I replied "thank you I will Officer". He got we sweating even though I was trying to look cool and saintly!

Maybe, but he said he wouldn't have done it normally but the Inspector made him

Is that a name for local brand of shortbread? I have climbed all 243 steps to the top of the William Wallace Tower overlooking Stirling and what a great view. SWMBO was simply terrified when I finally got her up there. It was a bit windy to be fair to her but is was worth the admission cost to see the look on her face. She doesn't even like looking at those holiday photo's because her knees start trembling!:D

Like the Hogmanay Scotch and Rye, a knee trembler up the back close was a nice why to bring in the New Year.

Wind can spoil the moment though.

Too much wind can cause you to break the speed limit, nicely back on topic!

Do you get a fine or course for a kilt flying past a speed camera after the kilt was influenced by strong cross winds 8-)

Depends on whether you are mooning at the same time. Gravity can make you break the speed limit just ask the guy who jumped from the Red Bull baloon in space. Think he exceeded 800mph passed out and thankfully awoke before opening his parachutes!

Think I will start my own Website and call it WIKISHYPEDIA, can't see anyone being upset by such an original name! Seems to roll off the tongue quite nicely.:blush
