Summer Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Have a 2011 Octavia Scout Estate with Pirelli Cinturato P7 225/50 r17 XL 98Y's on front which bought by self since owning car

The rears need changing and are currently Maxxis  (which came with car when bought) - Don't necessarily need the Pirelli standard on rear - can anyone

recommend a reasonable grip reasonable economy make for the rears? Local tyre dealer raved about Kumhos - but bewidlering amount of choice and not sure which type to go for

Don't venture off road much apart from odd farm track - mainly town and some motorway driving

Thanks in advance for any input from fellow Scout owners

What I would say is have all 4 matching - for me thats especially important on a 4WD.

So Pirelli Cinturato P7 225/50 r17 XL 98Y :)

My 1st Scout Oct 2 came with Falken Euro Winters and they were awful and badly worn but endede up returning that car.  My second Scout Oct 2 had Falkens as well and I binned these off for Continetal winter tyres.  A year later I bought the Scout Oct 3 it had a mix of tyres - having only just fitted a brand new set of 4 Winter Continentals to my old Scout (the old contis were almost down to limit) i had the new tyres swapped over as part of the trade deal.

Personally I'd avoid budget tyres like the Kumho etc.  Ive quickly looked on Oponeo and your tyre is £97 (possibly cheaper else where) and realistically the budget will be about half that at around £50

Appreciate its going to cost nearly double - Either way, id makes sure its Asymmetrical (as i believe the P7 is) and not directional so the tyre performance is equally matched front to back.

Thank you ScoutCJB for your very helpful reply

I guess its off to Mr Pirelli with the credit card - thanks for mentioning Oponeo - I didn,t know of them.  I have used tyreleader and got some very good deals on ex demo

tyres from them on other cars in the past, plus tyreleader  have an  associated tyrefitter local to me where they are delivered and then fitted

 Thanks again

OE on Skoda Fabia III  as well as some VW and MB cars.

Running them on one car for 9 years and 100 K miles with no problem.

Thanks AG Falco

Kumho are reasonable tyres.  I'd fit them before the Pirelli.  The P7 is no performance tyre.

I wonder why they are so expensive in the UK?  They are a cheap tyre down here - unfortunately they tend to get very noisy when half worn and have a tendency to go out of round.

Fully agree though - where possible try for a matching set

  • 2 weeks later...

I have Pirelli P7 Cinturato Blues fitted to my car.

They're no performance tyre true but having said that the grip is admirable and perfectly capable of hanging on towards the limits of the cars ability.

In my particular size etc (235/45/17 97W XL) they are double A rated.

I also got them at a really good price at the time (£96.79 per corner including fitting at home).

Had them 2 years and a little over 20,000 miles and the wear rate is phenomenal with loads of tread left (even by German standards).
