Coolant leak with aircon on?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a fabia 2002 2.0L petrol. 136k.

no major issues so far and 6 years owned.

Having a problem with coolant. Noticed the other day after an hour driving it was hosing out! Hard to see where from.

Drove to work (15 min) the next day and again going everywhere.

Both times I was using aircon. Today drove to work aircon not used and didn’t seem to happen??

any thoughts?

cheers

The only place you would expect to see coolant is from the expansion tank overflow.

Are you sure it isn't condensation draining from the blower box, it is rather humid and that dramatically increases the amount of condensation to be drained.

No it’s defs coolant. Noticed issue around a month ago when no coolant in tank at routine check! Filled it up. Noticed leak 2 days ago and checked level and almost empty again. Pink tinged stuff.

Ok, are both fans running when you switch the aircon on?

If not the car is overheating and blowing the coolant out of the expansion tank.

Agreed.

Radiator thermoswitch is a good place to start looking for leaks, just above the bottom hose connection. You'll see pink coolant stains around and below it if it is leaking (unless you have a different coloured coolant in there...).

Hi chaps.  Sorry for delay in reply I was on nights last week. I think it’s not aircon related and that probably is condensation as you say! I do think I have a slow coolant leak though as it is dropping in the tank week on week. I’ll wait until she hits 140k and then sort it at major service. Thanks for your time.
