It was more to the point that WLTP figures will be manipulated by the manufacturers in Europe  ,or basically allow them to carry on cheating in different ways once loopholes are found so basically nothing really changes.

Another article points out that manufacturers are measuring the WLTP figures having "tweaked" things on the vehicle, such as:

- an almost flat battery, so the alternator has to draw more power to recharge it

- thicker oil than they specify for customer use, increasing the engine load

- et al.

All in an attempt to make the new WLTP figures approximately 10% worse than they need to be, so that when they have to make the  15% reductions in emissions in a few years time they actually only need to make a 5% improvement...

Cars can always sit months or longer in pounds / stock / airfields /long term car parks, Hire Companies, Forecourts etc.

But VW Group have gone to VW508 / 509 so 0w 20 FS Long Life oil @ the factory fill and that is a change and the cars are on Variable / Flexible Service Intervals,

So the car you get with a PDI and 24 months or 18,500-20,000 miles to an Oil & Filter change might have been filled 30 months previous to the service.

Maybe VW Group will advise a Fixed Service on the new cars for the first service and give that free since the cars are 'old stock'.

Maybe PDI's with more being checked & the body report done, and then a free 'Inspection Service' after 6 months on these vehicles,

checking Brake Discs, Suspension etc, wipers and tyres.
