Voice command problem

Featured Replies

I have android auto on my Samsung Galaxy phone and I use Google maps and I'm subscribed to Google play music.

For 9 months its been working fine with my Bolero unit but a problem has just cropped up and I can't fix it and I wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem.

I can no longer ask for it to play any music I want via the voice command button on the steering wheel.

Navigation fine, phoning people fine, asking about weather and anything else under the sun fine.

Everything works with the voice command button  apart from asking for music. It started yesterday for no apparent reason.

It works on the phone when unplugged but doesn't when plugged in via usb in the car.

Any ideas or thoughts on what is wrong?

Voice control seems to be working fine through Android Auto for me. Might be worth deleting and reinstalling Play Music? That's solved weird issues for me before with apps playing up and not working in Android Auto (it was Pocket Casts in that case).

Thanks,I'll  give that a try tomorrow.

Do you have to use the button or simply say “Ok Google” ? I wondered about Android because on Apple IOS you can just say “Hey Siri”, and ask what ever you like. I never use the voice button on the steering wheel.

You can, but I've never found it to be reliable enough.

I can even switch my lights on at home from the steering wheel button.

There is a Bernard Manning 70's sexist joke in there somewhere.......

Before you delete Play Music go in to Settings / Apps / Google Play Music / Storage and tap the buttons to clear data and clear cache.

The above path varies a bit depending on you particular phone and Android flavour, but the point is to get to the settings for the offending app and to clear the app data and app cache.

Fun Fact! the above is useful anytime time an Android app is misbehaving.
