Amundsen sat nav - no DAB? Also what do you think of this Fabia Monte Carlo?

Featured Replies

I've just been to look at this Fabia Monte Carlo and have reserved it with a view to pick it up later this week.

I had a look at the radio system and couldn't find DAB.  I took this photo of the "bands" but it just shows FM and AM:

Am I being dim or does it not have DAB?

Honestly DAB isn't a deal breaker (I just wanted 105BHP engine for as close to £5k as I could find locally) but I was really hoping it would have it so I can get a clean reception for talkSport as well as a few DAB stations without having to go through my phone.

Also what does everyone think of this car? I currently drive a C-Max as a company car but am switching jobs and decided I want a Fabia cos I like them. Would have preferred all one colour but again it's hardly a deal breaker.

The HPI check reports one previous owner who used a private plate, so I figure it was fairly well looked after. The plates now on a 2014 focus, which he presumably swapped for at this dealership. And Cazana values the car at £6490. I'll be getting it for £5800. Seems a good deal to me. Front offside headlight is a bit steamed up with condensation but it doesn't seem like anything major, and the cigarette lighter is missing but that'll have a USB adaptor in there anyway for charging phones and whatever.

It needs another going over with a decent hoover but I can sort that. Seems fresh inside but I've already got a jar of Clobberizer ready to completely neutralise it, there were a few minor scrapes on the alloys but for a 13 plate that's expected and they're only visible cos they're black. Everything else seems great; I'm looking forward to owning my first Skoda.

DAB wasn't available in the UK for some reason for a number of years while some European countries had DAB fitted.

Here is a discussion form 2012 about it:

And regarding DAB not being available in 2011 on a Superb

Ah, so DAB then. :crying:

Still seems a decent car for the price though, I guess.

I'm not really a fan of the way that the DAB interface works on the Amundsen.

To navigate the stations they are grouped by mux rather than station name. So a local BBC station isn't with the other nation BBC station but with random local stations.

This can be very distracting to navigate stations that are not preset when driving. Having to look at the screen to see which grouping its on rather than glancing at which alphabetical station order its on.

That does sound quite distracting. Usually I just stick it on BBC Radio 1xtra and leave it on for the foreseeable though. No more though!

If DAB is not a deal breaker but you would like to add it for a reasonable price then this is worth a look.... https://www.pure.com/uk/car-audio/products/highway-400

Very easy to install, i know this from experience having installed one in my Yeti yesterday. The price quoted on the Pure website is the maximum you would pay for it, i got mine of a well known auction site for £123.....

I have a pure 600 with my Swing radio in my Fabia 2 fl Elegance.

Thanks for this, it’s certainly an option.

I’ll see how I get on with Bluetoothing my phone to it first, cos I’m skint at the moment.

Picking the car up this evening; looking forward to joining the Skoda fun!
