Torsion value

Featured Replies

Hi guys anybody know much about this.

Been changing these belts for years and read about this the other day. Never heard of it.

i don’t understand why would you fit timing tools then adjust the valve timing to get the correct torsion value but ultimately the timing peg now won’t fit.

Any body shed any light on it?

How far is it off?

The reason you undo the pulley bolts is to stop you locking tension on the belt. Its only a small amount of movement of the pulley in relation to the camshaft so I don't think you can get it too far out anyway.

The timing tools make sure you get the crank and camshaft pulley timed correctly whereas you could see the camshaft/cam pulley as a sort of fine adjustment.

The thing is with torsion value once you adjust the camshaft you’re physically adjusting the valve timing advanced or retarded.

If like I read you adjust to find a happy medium with the torsion value why wouldn’t the manufacture just set there timing tools to be optimin setting.

If been in the trade 15 years and only just found out about this and not many people know about it from who I’ve asked.

It's not just the valve timing, it's the PD injector stroke timing as well.

If you use the locking set it will get you close enough for the engine to start and run safely, the final torsion value can then be determined by the ECU using the cam and crank position sensors, this gives a value and the opportunity to fine tune the timing.

I used this after a cylinder head rebuild - The garage had no idea on setting this up, I had to do it myself.

Because fitters aren't trained, they do a generic college course and the rest is learnt on the job, no specialist training is given unless they're main dealer staff.

I see, if you worked on them all the time then you would know but I work on fords for a living. There’s no mention of this on autodata.

whats a good value aim for when carrying this out?
