Sachs Clutch Torque rating

Featured Replies

Just had an email back from Sachs.

Clutch cover 883082 999753 max transmittable eng torque 400nm with

organic faced disc

Driven plate 881864 999980 organic faced disc to suite above cover

400nm = 295 ftlbs.

Thought they had a higher rating?

Just to add. They don't offer an uprated DMF :thumbdwn:

Hi Mate

I was lead to believe it was higher.

You will find that the dmf is quite good to start.

Yup, As i said before there are many people having problems in the VAG scene at the moment and the ones i (Personally) know of are only pushing 310 lb/ft and are on their 2nd sachs plate.

Helix do the SMF for the Fabia, and i am not 100% sure i have ever heard of an uprated DMF, would be good though, at least you wouldnt be too concerned about undue stresses passed through the drivetrain

They now list dual mass flywheels on there site. So asked if they were uprated. Answer No.

Either the kevlar that Jason has or the Helix with SM flywheel seem the way to go.:)

Is your flywheel on the way out or is the cluch just slipping.

Right found this.

Performance Pressure plate 883082 999753.

Combined with:

std clutch disc is rated to 400nm

Racing facings 460nm

Sintered Plate 510nm

Did you get prices? and does the DMF need to be faced?

Problem is (as sachs reccomend) the sintered plate is for race applications and is deemed too harsh for day to day use... also expect it to last about a year ;)

Personally i think the rubber bits are more important than a clutch atm... clutch + dmf still alive (just) rubber bits aint so alive.

Pressure plate £201.60 ex vat

Organic Clutch disk £243.60 ex vat

Sinter Clutch disk £142.10 ex vat

Not been told about the DMF needing to be faced. Think thats only for the kevlar ones. Could be wrong.

Hi

With those you dont need to reface the DMF

It is going to be too harsh to have the sintered one.

I am sure that these was higher rated than that.

That is the price £445.20 + VAT

This does not come supplied with the release bearing so it could be worth putting one in at the same time @ £32.00 ish + VAT it could also be worth thinking about that too.

Sarah

It maybe worth having a look at http://www.clutchmanufacturer.co.uk/kevlarclutches.html

Sounds very similiar to the ones JBS can supply.

I sent them an e-mail enquiry for the 1.9 TDI ASZ clutch to handle a constant 410Nm.

A High performance Kevlar clutch can be hand built to match your spec & is priced @ £300 +VAT & £10 delivery.

Flywheel must be in as new condition & a min of 500 miles bedding in period.

Hmm I was told the Sachs one should handle nitrous without a problem  I've got the Sachs organic clutch + uprated pressure plate, it had better last as that's why I got the blasted thing in the first place :(

Yeah, I can't complain about my clutch. :) It was a costly mod, but for peace of mind in the long run, it was well worth the money. I hope the lightened DMF stands up to the pressure though. :)

Jason, did you have your flywheel re-faced?

What's the deciding factor that requires a re-face?

And what sort of torque are you putting out now?

Questions, questions!!! :D

Yes, I believe the reason is something to do with the kevlar clutch plates being very narrow, but not 100% sure why. I'm pushing 350 - 360 lb/ft depending on which rollers to believe.

Thanks Jason.

I should be alright with only 315ft.lb then! :D

Don't forget, things don't go BANG when you exceed the torque limit by 1 lb/ft. I imagine my torque must be greatly exceeding some offical torque figures of some component or other. Driveshafts spring to mind. BANG! Although I still say that driveshaft may have had hidden damage.

Oh, and I plan to eventually exceed the torque limit on the clutch as well. ;)

Having said all this, if you use the revs a bit more (esp. important with standard clutch) you will help the situation considerably.

I agree to a certain extent, but I'm a bit lazy & like to use that big wedge of torque low down to "surprise" people! :D

Me too admittedly :D

:wavey: and me. :D:o

Going off that then, the Sachs organic racing facing (!) clutch with HD pressure plate will handle the extra torque of a remapped PD130 (around 420Nm). Right?

Correct. I'll try and dig out the info I've got after lunch.
