Contisport 5 vs F1 Asy 2

Featured Replies

I need to replace my tires and at my price point I have a choice between the contisportcontact 5, Eagle F1 Asy 2 or Potenza RE050A.

which Tyre would people recommend? I prefer to go for the quieter option.

Not sure what size wheels you're using but if you can get them in your size/budget, then I can thoroughly recommend Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance.  A great all-round tyre IME and much better than their eco-centric naming would suggest.  Having gone to them from Eagle F1's I wasn't expecting much BUT I was wrong.  Great tyres and worth a look, and they did prove to increase the MPG on my Leon ST by 3-5% and didn't have any problems handling ~230bhp going through the front wheels either.

I'm not a fan of the Bridgestones, they didn't last very long on my Octy vRS and they were quite noisy.

Goodyear will be quietest on the road if that is your key criteria. I agree with penguin17 re the Efficient Grip option. Not had them on the S3 but know them from other family cars.

Goodyr are the best on your list , but don't discount mid rangers. Some like Falken, Yokohama's and others are up there with the best and cost around 50 quid less.

Do you really need a sport tyre like the Mich Pilot 4s . Yes its a great tyre , prob the best and can be used on the track.

As above go see tyre reviews and see that some of the mid rangers do great in the wet and dry grip vs the well known names

My choice prob Avon ZV7 around £120 for my 19" wheel

Lastly , your right the Bridgestones aren't that good , other B/stones don't fair well either in wet ( my opinion)

Thanks for the detailed reply. I really appreciate it.

my main criteria is comfort and noise. As long it’s betters the P7 in these two aspects I can live with everything else.

I have a reviews and they seem to change a lot with size and dimension so you never get a clear winner.

comfort and noise Pilot sport 4 or 4s , grip is extreme , wet is really good

Black circles for my size is £191 each , buy 2 and get £15 off. Pay all at once or pay 6 months later.

Of course as all summer tyres are " PISH" in the snow or ice

Some peeps are moving to MiCH CROSS CLIMATE 2 , all year rounders , low noise , good comfort and will get you up a snowy hill no problem.

Just the price stops me doing it

and the fact that they don't make them to fit the 235/40 R19's on the Sportline too? ;)

Choice of two all-season tyres for the Sportline.  I went for the Vredestein Quatrac 5's and they are bloody great.

Yes sorry meant to say that , but im hopeful Mich start making the bigger size. The CC2 or CC+ were launched last year I think. So if we have a bad winter like last , Might be a market for the tyres in big sizes.

Im soo sad , ilove tyres

F1 AS2 are old, is there no AS3 option? Alternatively Michelin PS4 would be a good shout.

As are Conti SC5's, the 6 is now out and is getting some really good reviews.  Toppled the mighty PS4's in one review.

I've heard good things about the SC6.

As for the RE050A, I'm surprised you can still get them. I had those on a car made in 2010 and they were never top of the tyre tests back then. Last forever though.
