Centre front arm rest

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 SEL Executive and in the front centre arm rest at the very back of it there is a blanking plate. Does anyone know what would go in there? I was thinking that a usb socket would be nice.

Is there something in there on the L&K?

It is a lamp holder which illuminates the box.

the blank socket is where the additional USB + Aux port goes - 5G0035222E.

i'm planning to retrofit it one day, but it involves getting a USB Splitter hub (5G0035953C - that gets installed inside the centre console), and additional wiring harness.

this will then give u a "USB2 " option in your infotainment screen.

Just what I wanted to know.

Now, if you wouldn't mind getting on and fitting one and provide a step-by-step how to that would be excellent ;-)

Any idea if this second socket supports Android Auto etc or if you're constrained to the socket in the centre console?

Lol i second that if its not a hard retrofit id be interested if anyonr does a how to guide

+2 to that!

Yikes......the pressure is on!!

The components n wiring is plug n play, but the bit that is hard is the removal of the entire centre armrest console.

Involves removing the gearshift cover, and phonebox compartment - in order to be able to remove the centre console.

when I get the courage to take it apart to do the install, then I'll b sure to make a how-to guide :)

for now, I have another retrofit I'm about to embark - to retrofit SLA headlights.

I've done it on both my Octavia II and Yeti, but the Superb looks a little trickier. The dash and tunnel looks a bit more "integrated".

Of course, it all comes down to where the wires need to be plugged in to to integrate, as actually running to wires through the console should be fairly simple (run them under the edge rather than remove it) but if the console needs to come off to plug in at the front then that doesn't make any difference.

my understanding is yes - this will support andriod auto.  not sure about carplay.
there is a version D of this splitter, that definitely suports both, however its a 3 way splitter.

as opposed to version C which is a 2-way splitter.

the thing i'm not sure is if the wiring harness goes into the back of the screen unit, or the back of the headunit (in the glovebox).   i'm going with back of headunit - which means:-

1. remove glovebox so i can access the back of the headunit.

2. remove the phonebox

3. remove the gearbox consolve cover

4. remove the centre console

5. mount usb splitter inside/under armrest centre console area.

6. remove usb connector from back of headunit, and replace with new wiring harness

7. route the usb wiring harness, from back of glovebox, under the phonebox, through centre console channel, to the to usb splitter.

8. route one of the wires to the existing USB1 port in the phonebox.

9. connect the other usb wiring harness to USB2 port inside the armrest.

10. put everything back

11. do the vcds coding.

12. cross finger

<snip>

That's a bit like me saying, all I have to do is:-

1. Meet Salma Hayek

2. Seduce Salma Hayek

3. Allow Salma Hayek to fall in love with me

4. Live happily ever after

5. Fingers crossed

Sounds so simple.

I'm guessing the 3 way splitter (for the USB, I've stepped away from Ms. Hayek now) would allow for expansion later.

And if I only wanted usb, not 3.5mm, I could use what's labelled as 2 on the diagram rather than 1.

In effect, a 2, an R293(D) and a couple of cables (2x"10" possibly).

Not sure of the parts cost, but sounds achievable. Of course, until I've had the dealer look at the phantom on my Columbus, I daren't fiddle. Or perhaps I could persuade them to pop this kit in while they're sorting the other out...

So......

What if I just want the USB to be power only?

Is it possible to do the easy fix and make a connection to the rear seat socket?

That should be fairly simple -

I'm guessing something like this attached to the power wires to the 12V socket,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GEREE-Converter-Voltage-Regulator-Samsung/dp/B01KX00U2Y

then feed the female USB end up through the hole

There would be far prettier ways of achieving it, but that would be a start

bhahahha - anything for Salma!!!

does she have to know??

correct - #2 if its just the USB port u need.  i'll b doing the same too, as i won't be using the AUX jack.

the more i'm researching about the usb splitter/hub, i'm finding that the hub needs to be powered (circled in red in pic below).

this involves tapping into other wires and bits :(

Bear in mind USB is 5v and the rear socket is 12v. You will need a converter to step the voltage down.
