£99 Dealer Oil Service

Featured Replies

Just had an email from my local dealer about this, never seen it offered or listed under the fixed price servicing scheme but it's now also on the Skoda website.

This seems like a far better value option than the minor service, as many minor services will likely only be an oil + filter change plus a few basic checks. The following items are essentially what the extra £70 for a minor service will get you over and above the basic oil change:

  • Full vehicle road test**
  • Vehicle & software enhancements from ŠKODA’s database
  • Replacement pollen filter ^
  • Diagnostic check including report
  • Re-set service interval display
  • Wash and vacuum
  • ŠKODA stamp in service book

I would assume that some items such as the "service interval display is reset" and "Skoda stamp in the service book" would apply even to the £99 oil change. You wouldn't expect the dealer to leave the service now light on, and the newer cars don't even have a book to stamp!

I never get the wash and vacuum done by the dealer as I like my car to remain scratch free and pristine. Pollen filter is rarely changed unless "required" but service cost still the same regardless. The rest is really money for nothing and I wouldn't be surprised if software enhancements are often not done by dealers anyway unless specifically asked for.

In short, it seems like a much better value option than a minor service and I'd be surprised if many indepedents/specialist garages would do you a basic oil + filter service with genuine parts for less. I'll be using this for future services, with other filters being done by myself.

Software enhancements means "mandatory" software updates for safety/regulation/component protection as far as I'm aware.

You dont get "nice-to-have" updates even if they are available unless it is forced by VAG through some kind of TSB or recall action.

They wont update your navigation unit software for example even if there are 4 or 5 newer versions than the one you have.

€99 seems like a bargain to me...

Not Mandatory.  Obviously Safety Critical RECALLS with the DVSA in the UK are Important, but still not Mandatory.

You can say, my car is Remapped, Do not do Software Updates.

I do not want '34F7'  or 34H5 carried out on my DQ200 DSG.

Do not do the VW Emissions Cheat Software Update etc etc

99 Euro would have been a real bargain but even with the poor exchange rate £99 is still good.

They get an Up-selling opportunity.

Ford used to do a £99 oil change for cars over 3yr. old but speak nicely and some dealers would do this on a 1 year old car. It also came with 1yr free breakdown cover. Now that was a good deal.

But if Skoda are applying this to cars 1yr old cars then perfect - in fact I might even enquire about it myself. (I'm on longlife). If I'd know that, they could have done the oil change on my SEAT too. I only wish SEAT dealers would offer this because most of them said this wasn't possible.

Regarding diagnostics - I thought diagnostics were carried out as a matter of routine everytime the car went in to the service depo.  Hooking up their handheld monitor to the service port - done in less than a minute.

Called Variable or Flexible Servicing (LongLife on the websites) no need to not do sooner than the indicators shows, or Fixed Interval.

The Long Life is the oil required for Variable / Flexible (LongLife servicing),  but all Main Dealers or almost all will use Long Life Oil when doing Fixed Servicing.

They need to anyway with a TDI, but will as well with a Petrol / TSI engine.

With a TSI that is a keeper i would want the VW502 00 so 5w 40 FS and not the Long Life VW504 5w 30 FS LL

But then some Service Desk Staff will say they can not use that, not to spec, it is not Fully Synthetic and such crap.

I meant GBP but theres no pound symbol on the european keyboards so I often type €s instead. :)

They've been secretly preparing for brexit for years...
