Strange knocking after new brakes fitted

Featured Replies

I've just fitted a set of front discs and pads to a relatives Nissan Micra and now when you brake there are multiple knocks which come from the nearside as you come to a stop.

The knocking was not there before. I have stripped everything down and re-built that side but I still get the knocking. I could understand if there was a single knock if the pads were a bit loose in the carrier but I've got no idea what could be making multiple knocks.

Anybody had this before? I'm going to try swapping the pads to the other side tomorrow see if that makes any difference, and if not, swap the discs to try and pin point the issue.

Clean up and grease the sliders? Only thing off the top of the head would be pad bouncing along the slides as it gets stuck.

nothing loose or getting caught in there I take it?

I looked at everything and couldn't see anything amiss. I even took the pads out and measured them to make sure there were no differences from the old ones. I even tried swapping the pad nearest the piston to the outer side to no avail.

What did sort the problem however was moving the pairs of pads round from each side of the car.

If I hadn't have had everything apart 2 or 3 times on the offending side I would of told myself it was just something that wasn't quite true or sitting right when tightened down but it was a strange one for sure.
