Climatic control unit

Featured Replies

Does not work. No display, no air con, no fans. Pressed buttons a few times when the car is running and nothing.

Where do I start?

Blown Fuse? have you checked in the battery fuse box?

@jackg - Fuses, then live and earth to fascia panel.

Fuses are ok. can't find a wiring diagram for the Climatronic in Haynes, only typical diagrams.

Four connector blocks on the rear of it. Khaki, Red, small black and large black.

When you say no fans, do you mean no cooling fans or no air distribution fans?. If you mean cooling fans, I would start by checking the connector block above the starter motor for broken wiring.

You wont get a wiring diagram from Haynes, your best bet is to download what you need and save to pdf by buying an hour's time from Erwin at Skoda. cost is about a tenner for an hour, and you can get an awful lot of stuff in an hour.

Checked fuse 16 10A. So gave up. But this is stated as air con, and water pump?

Getting cold so took to to Halls Electrical and they diagnosed fuse 5 blowing, 7.5A.

Said it could be triggered by recent replacements or changes on the same circuit. He said check the wing mirrors, the adjusters work, the sun roof; which works. Reading lights work as well.

So not sure what else the fuse 5 controls.

The off side door electric windows block connector is not good and the door lock engages after 30 seconds. I have a new unit but not fitted it. Could it be this?

Also replaced the off side wing mirror glass with a pattern, heated so this may cause issues perhaps, if on the same circuit.

Maybe remove the glass to measure the terminals resistance on the back of the glass.

The Erwin info does not help that much.

Using the circuit diagrams from erWin... fuse 5 in the Climatronic system supplies the Climatronic control module, and  the fan control module J293 with an ignition switched 12V, and also the high pressure refrigerant sensor G65.  I believe I've heard of the G65s suffering condensation issues which can short out the loom connector, so I'd start by looking at that.

It may also be related to heated seats if you have them, and wing mirrors, as well as brake and clutch pedal switches, and cruise control system.

The G65 sensor connector followed by the fan control module wiring would be my top two candidates for checking though, if the fuse is continuing to blow whenever replaced.

That is very helpful.

No heated seats, no cruise control.

The fuse continues to blow whenever replaced...

Any help please.

Took it back to Halls in Yate.

Three days later it was fixed.

Oil level sensor was burnt out. They could not replace it as they feared it may not unscrew easily so they bridged the connection. £1 parts £374 labour.

They did say there were other faults but not detailed on the invoice.

On starting the amber oil light did come on for 15 seconds prior to repair.

Nice to have a warm car.

The dash LED now defaults to temperature instead of time on starting.

The level sensor is on the sump. maybe hard to unscrew after 15 years of use and rusting?

the oil pressure sensor was on the oil filter housing somewhere?
