Routing cables through the firewall

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm looking to route a power cable through the firewall to the battery and wondered whether anyone has any experience of doing this? On my previous VAG cars, there was a grommet, but I can't seem to find this on my 2018 Octavia. Also, which parts of the dash would I need to remove on the inside?

I did do a quick search, but couldn't find any previous posts on this subject. I found one about installing a dash cam, but this was powered directly from the fuse box. I'm looking to install a radio transceiver, so it would need to connect directly to the battery .

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Greg

I did it on mine to fit 1/0g cable and used the factory grommet behind glovebox, remove the glovebox on inside, under bonnet remove battery. bit of a tight squeeze but you should be able to just see the grommet once the battery is out..

Repeat post from 3 months ago to run a wire along the bottom of the windscreen perchance?

Thanks, sounds like the grommet is hiding behind the battery, so I'll take that out to have a look. Did you find the glovebox straightforward enough to remove?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything when I searched.

the factory grommet is bound tight with PU tape and need to be cut to allow the wire though i'm using 4 AWG and its a really tight squeeze. I tried once and gave up as i didn't have a lot of time but going back out now to complete it.

the grommet is quite large about 6 inches in circumference. its PU taped to the main +ve to the fuse box and there are of other wires in the bundle. The most difficult part with be wrapping it to water proof it again but you cant make an omelette without breaking a few eggs i suppose.  it is a PITA to do and if youre not sure take it to a pro.

Thanks Johnny, that was really helpful. I've just finished and thanks to your instructions was able to complete the job in just over an hour.

When I reconnected the battery, a number of the assist systems flashed up warnings on the dash, but thankfully taking it for a short drive reset everything.
